Default Quieter Baffles need retune?

Good day all. Asking about my 12 FB lo that came with Vance & Hines Ling shots with what I think are the loudest baffle option that they offer. I think I have read that there are 3 levels available...the loud ones the quieter one and the super quiet ones. I will pull the baffles today to see what I have....but I would like to quiet her down for the summer . My bike has the V&H long shots and the S&S hi flow AC. I'm assuming it needed a tune to get this stuff to behave properly. My question is ... if I do go the next step quieter with the glass wrapped baffle do you think I will need to have the bike returned again? Anyone here playing baffle swap depending on you mood? If I need a retune I don't think I will do the baffles because of how I like to change up the bike according to that days ride. I have a clip on windshield...2 different seat options ..a clip on sissy bar back rest for wife and a bag system that comes on and off. If I can do the same with the exhaust sound without a re-tune that would be great. Thanks all for your answers and advice.

Yeah, quieter will usually mean restricted so yes. Could probably just smart tune/ target tune or whatever it's called for your particular tuner and get it pretty close. Then just save both files and install the one you need each time. I usually have several different tunes for mine depending on different variables. Takes a few seconds to load a tune.

I don't own a tuner (yet). From previous records everything that was done on this bike was by a dealer. So do you think a call to Vance & Hines would help? And speaking of tuners what do you use and where did you buy it? Thanks.

I had V&H quiet baffles in Reaper's V&H Straight Shots, and they definitely quieted things down. They also robbed a very noticeable amount of hp and torque. I didn't keep them in for long.

An option you might want to explore is Thunder Torque Inserts by DK Custom. I have a set in the Straight Shots, and without any other baffles, they're about as loud as the stock cheese grater baffles. The TTI's can be used with baffles, and I did measure the volume at idle with both installed, and they were about 3 dB quieter than the stock baffles. The best part about the TTIs, is that they get rid of the typical off-the-line torque dip you get with these kinds of pipes, and they do not rob power or torque. They also have a deeper tone, and get rid of the raspiness of the pipes.

Cheers!

Vance & Hines recommends and sells Fuelpak tuners.

Normally I'd suggest a TTS Mastertune but they're hard to find right now.
The Dynojet PowerVision is the next best tuner and probably most popular.
If it had dealer tunes installed it's not much of a tune and it's running EPA lean.

Thanks and thanks to all who have replied. Shall i assume that the Dynojet PowerVision tuner will handle just about any "bolt on" changes that bike owner can do? Like pipe changes / air cleaner changes and possibly a cam change that does not require head/ valve work? Thanks

Yes, absolutely..... Many dyno operators tune with a PowrVision tuner.... it's a full service tuner..

Buy it from FuelMoto, and you'll get lifetime tune support form both FuelMoto AND DynoJet.... Plus for only $239, you can add as many bikes to that tuner as you desire...

The BAD news, due to shortages, covid, etc, etc, etc..... The price of a Power Vision tuner has jumped to like $700. I was lucky enough to get two over the years (long story), both about $349...

But they now offer a cheaper version called the DynoJet PV3 Power Vision ..... akso available form FuelMoto with lifetime map support... I suspect it's like the V&H Fuelpak.... but have no experience with it...

That sucks when they jack up the price and you still can't get it...!

What about their newer cheaper tuner...?
