Hard Starting When Hot
I had the EXACT same issue with my bike when hot. Cold no issue. Also the hot issue was very intermittent, could be fine for weeks and then happen again. I tried some of the usual suspects, battery, engine temp, injectors (thinking an occasionally stuck injector) and the last was the speed sensor. Even though my speedo was fine (usually a symptom) I tried it. Still had the issue. I even was carrying an inline spark tester, never had a chance to use it because when it had the issue while carrying the spark tester, the bike would run on the 2nd or third attempt.
I was about to give up, but I was having an issue with my starter where it would disengage from the ring gear when the engine would try to run, but not run. A friend had the same problem, he changed the bendix of the starter and no more issue. I was going to try the same but found a brand new starter made by DB Electric for a few bucks more than the bendix. Put the new starter in and it cranks over really fast now compared to my old starter. AND, so far I have not had the issue of it not starting while hot, again same as the OP.
So MAYBE the starter was drawing soo my power from the battery that it did not have enough power to properly run the ignition system as well.
The starter seems to have solved my issue. Hope this helps down the road,
Tom
