I have read a zillion posts on the flush mount gauge and cap, and gauges seem to be an issue. My problem is I love the way they look...and I feel INEED them...Does anyone know if HD has improved or upgraded the electronics in these?
Ive read the posts about them failing but I have them on my bike and love the look. I replaced a HD LRD Six Shooter gauge that failed with the flush mount. My buddie has them on his RK for almost a year now, rides every day and they work fine. I asked my dealer in LA about them and he did not know of a high failure rate on the product. HD still makes them.
If your worried about them try the Kuryakyn version they have a flush mount cap and gauge
I read all the posts as well about the problems, but still purchased and installed them a couple of weeks ago. Love the look So far it's pretty accurate - one light remaining lit at about 150 miles which is what I usually get before hitting reserve ans the point that I usually refill. I still track the mileage using the trip meter.
I'll attempt to post a pic, apologize for the poor quality.
I put them on my 01 Fatboy almost 2 years ago and I have had no problems. With about 1 gallon left in the tank the last light turns red to let you know it's time to fuel up.

The HD brand was an easy install. The instructions were pretty straightforward also. You have to take the connector off the old gauge with a tiny screwdriver and install it on the new one. It helps to have service manual to see how the plug comes apart. Getting to the plug under the tank is a tight fit but it wasn't that difficult.

After only 3 months, I have 4 lights not coming on, and a fuel cap that falls apart in my hand everytime I open it. I am NOT satisfied with this piece of JUNK. I am ordering the Kuryakan, and tossing the H-D in the trash, where it belongs.
Its unfortunate that H-D makes something like this, and doesn't stand behind it. With the cost factor, thats a pretty expensive piece of JUNK!
