Default Compensator Question

Good evening,

I have a 2009 Heritage, that I am trying to remove the Screaming Eagle compensator off of. I'm using the T70 Torx bit with a breaker bar and its not budging! Should I be using an 1 1/2 socket on the nut around the torx instead? I have watched a few videos and no one seemed to have an issue getting this nut off. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!
T

That nut isn't what you think it is. Take the bolt out. I use a 1/2" impact and it breaks loose easily.

No....

The bolt you need to remove is the torx head bolt....

Some use an impact wrench and it comes right out, but some feel the impact could dislodge magnets from the rotor assembly.

They use red locktite on that bolt, so if you could use some heat, it will allow it to come out easier...

I use an induction heat tool. I have taken out four comp bolts with that tool and mine have come right out after adding heat...

FYI...
Look at the pic on this HD compensator add. You will see that what you think is a hex nut, is the sprocket retainer.. It is not a nut that needs to be removed to allow the comp to come off... The Torx bolt in the upper right of the pic is what holds the comp in place. That torx bolt is what you need to remove. You can see the threadlocker on the threads in the pic

gottcha! Ok , thanks for the info! I'll try some heat and an impact gun. I'm not worried about the rotor, since I will be replacing that as well.

Thank you all for the suggestions! A little heat from a torch and in impact gun did the trick!

Now I'm stuck sliding the rotor out, as it gets caught up on the outer lip of the primary case, FML!!! I don't want to get involved with removing the inner primary. Has anyone grinded down that lip on the primary case??

Thanks again!

I have not done a 2009. I never bother with impacts, I just put a cheater bar on my breaker if I need to. If on a jack, watch the bike.

are you using one of those rubber wedge step things? most advise against as they can cause damage. Some threads on HDF about it. Am no expert, but made the proper tool to lock the primary first. Wasn't too difficult, or buy one on Ebay.
