I am installing OEM foot controls on a 84 FXST. I source mostly all oem parts according to the parts manual of ebay or DK. I am not real happy with the way the shift side looks and I'm not sure what it should look like. I think Wide Glides are the same set up for the 81-86 years.
If someone can get me a pic of the linkage showing connections I would really appreciate it.

These are 1985 Wide Glides off the internet.... maybe they will give you an idea of what it looks like, until someone can give specific pics of the connections...
Since you mentioned 1984 thru 1989.... For comparison.... here is my 1989 Heritage shift linkage....

Thank you. I was at work and couldn't do much searching. It looks like the pieces I have. Just waiting on the outer shift lever (part that toe peg bolts to). On my bike the long rod just seems tight in there when I bolt it to the inner shift lever that passes through the bracket. In these three pics it looks like that lever should point at 01:00. I was just out there looking at it. Looks like there are chrome acorn nuts on the engine that might be getting in the way of the shift rod. Got to go play with it some more. Thanks again.
Your heritage looks totally different. I ordered everything by part number. it should just be a matter of getting them aligned. One thing I don't see on the parts lists is a spring that was attached to the shift lever assembly that bolts to the shifter. The l shaped part. There was a spring attached where that and the long shift rod connect pulling down to the frame rail. I can't see what that was for unless it was needed with he aftermarket controls. We'll see.

You mentioned, "I am not real happy with the way the shift side looks."
I offered it only as a comparison, in case the Heritage-Style linkage is what you were expecting to see, versus the other style linkage....
I didn't mean to confuse the issue...

I took some pics of my 85 softail linkage, hopefully this helps you out. foot shift lever connection clevis connection to transmission shift lever
Thank you! I have to match the shift rod I got up to yours because when I bolt mine up it is pinned up against the engine. I couldn't find a part number for 84 softail, 85 softail part number is 33850-85, all I could find was a beat up used one on eBay, no aftermarket. I used the 84 Wide Glide part number 33851-52A thinking they should be the same. Apparently not LOL.
84 wide glide shows two part numbers for left side foot mount. One is the same as the 84 FXST. Jiffy stand bolts to either bracket
33683-80 BRACKET, shift lever and foot peg 80 to 84 - FXWG (this is the bracket I have. It is also listed under 84 FXST)
33630-71 BRACKET, shift lever N/A 71 to 73 - All Models
I'm thinking the shift rod changed with the wet clutch. Different inner primary, old shift rod was for dry clutch, which I ordered, doesn't fit. the one on JDM66's bike is for wet clutch, late 84 FXST. Slight difference in shift rods. I had to put washers on my shift lever and connect the shift rod on the outside of the lever to get it centered down by the inner primary. I don't think is going to work because There may not be enough meat on the splines to hold the foot shifter and it looks like crap. The foot lever is on order and will be here friday. I have to do more searching for that 85 shift rod 33850-85
