With the Heritage your sitting directly above the oil tank, which on mineseems exceptionally hot, but I'm NOT so much worried abouth the heat issue as I am the knocking noise. With my 07 Ultra when I upgraded the exhaust, breather and fuel management the heat subsided quite a bit. Also, remember this bike, like most new ones, has the break-in oil in it, and if I remember correctly, with my other HD"s, after changing to Synthetic at the 1000 mile change, the heat went down as well. As much as I've have problems with the MOCO, the heat issue appears to stem from the EPA, thus tying MOCO's hands. The goods thing I've seen so far with the 08's is that most are satisfied with their scooter and hopefully my issues are just an exception and the dealer Will get them taken care of. the dealer I took my bike to the other day is NOT the dealer I bought the bike from, who is very interested in this noise. That's why I went out of my local area to buy the bike, the dealers here are rip-offs and besides I saved $4,000.00 going elsewhere to buy the bike Harley Davidson of Columbia, TN, seems to be decent people, so far. If your thinking of trading check them out.

I think you must be talking about Bumpus or Cool Springs. That would be my bet. Great places to go look...but not buy. Good luck with your 08, hope you get the bugs worked out.

I can say only 2 things.
First off I am sorry to hear of your troubles with the new 08 bike, BUT
It is under Warranty is it not?
I would ride that bitch till it came apart, then call dumb *** down at the dealer and tel him where he can pick it up.

Seriously, if they wont fix it/take it back RIDE Like its stolen....if it doesnt break, it will be one Bad *** motor.

I wish you luck my freind, Ride the Hell out of it.....[8D]
Sorry to hear about your bike troubles,

I agree though, beat it like it owes you money!!!

You "saved" $4,000 and still paid $20,000 for a Heritage?

I have a 07 fatboy that makes too many noises in my openion. I installed loud exhaust to cover all the noises the bike made. Not what I call a fix but the dealer said it was normal sounds. If I would have knowned this before I purchased it I would have thought about it a little longer. I only test drove it a couple of miles and it was about 40 degrees that day. Did not notice the heat or noise problems on the test drive. Shame on me.

I am not laughing at you, I am trying to get you to laugh with me! At the end of the day, I am certain it will get repaired. I promise you though, my 08 is FLAWLESS Quite! And with the stock pipes you can here everything! But trust I believe you got a bike with a problem.

Keep us posted!

Certainly know I am sorry about this for you I did not mean to not be insensative to your situation! And putting myself in your shoes understand why your Hot in more ways then one over it!....These bikes are not cheap as you point out, and itobvious you have gotten a really shitty hand with your last two new bikes. I am genuinely interested in the outcome and the problem when this bike gets a shakedown with a Dealer that has someone on boardthat knows how cash their @ss to check their butts and find outwhat the hell is going on with it.

Let me tell a little story about a buddy's 07Ultra with just 2300 Miles when he started our trip.....Last Month we took a8 daytrip with 5 other bikes From Seattle, hit Wyoming, Montana, Idaho,. I spent the night at his house the night before we parted for this trip the next morning. We roll our bikes out of the garage his will not start! Lights onbright, no starter action. He says you know this has done this a bunch of times and I had it to the dealer, before leaving on this trip last week for it. They FOUND NOTHING wrong he says! So we proceed a push start his brand new bike! And off we go. We eventually hit Idaho, and he pulls over to the side. States he is loosing oil pressure he says! No death knock present... so we make the executive decision toride itinto Caldwell, IdahoHD. They look at it real quick...say something in the wiring harness likely maybe sender? Do your trip and get it into another dealer when you have time for them to dig deeper into it. But thought it was a sending unit problem. We get into Montana. At the hotel ready to go get a refreshment after arrival to the hotel......No Start!

He lets it cool down a while before jingling wires around the starter. Pushes the start button, and my eye just happened to be on the Starter area. I saw a pretty good arc underneath it. We really start looking in the area of the arcing....And low and behold is a main ground cable under that starter with a nut hanging on the very last few threads....... It was a bitch to tighten, hard to get to buriedspot! Once we got it tight....Hmmm started right up and Oil pressure registeredright where it was suppose to, and he has not had anon startproblem/low oil presuuresince!

Moral to the story, is many of the dealermechanicsare obviously not real sharp! And I am pretty convinced you might have some of this in full effect your also working through with your bike.Given all the symptoms he hadyouwould think it would occur to a mechanic to check the ground lug? Nope two dealers looked at it!

The way you describe your issue, you would think it would be right in front of their face! So my take is there is a problem with the bike, and the dealer monkeys are not qualified to find it, and fix it for you. Heck, they cannot even find a loose ground on a bikein Seattle that went into service dept! I think all manufacturers have quality problems to some degree. Even car dealerships have lines of cars going in for warranty work. But the bigger issue is those Dealers we rely on that are suppose to get it straight and fixed....Seemingly, Iamgetting the idea few are reallyqualified to do the work or top in th

Rmsurveyors,

I've been reading your posts for quite awhile now, and for the life of me I can't understand why in the world you went out and bought another Moco product. For the last two months, youwere with out question the most prolific poster on the '07 tranny problem thread. If I'm not mistaken, you wanted to boycott the Moco, sue them, and generaly spread the word to all who will listen, that the Moco builds man junk burning crap. Now you, of all people, buy a new heritage? WTF? Also you, yes you tell all who will listen that you won't spend 189 bucks on the IDS to fix your Ultra clatter. You also know the only two people who have installed the IDS, that claim it didn't help their noise issue. Everyone else claims it does wonders. I'm also curious, why you've stopped, almost over night, posting in the 07' tranny problem thread? Again WTF? A solution to the clattering, which you claimed isn't a solution, and now that thread has turned into a bunch of happy customers. Where is rmsurveyors? No more bone to chew? Now your here telling the softail folks what garbage the 08's are. WTF!? For the record, I own an 07' Deluxe, and on the motorcycle pad where I work there are7 new 07's. They range in mileage from between 1300, and 6000 miles. Two dynas. three softails and two touring. Guesswhat, I'm the only one of the bunch with an issue, I've got a dull knocking noise in the primary area. I'm going to get the compensator checked. I'll let you know how it turns out, but I gotta believe, if it sounds and smells like a troll its a troll! WTF!

I just got an 08 softail custom, and it did run a little hotter when I first got it, but I just put a Stage 1 on it and it cooled down a lot. I have no noise problems (less engine noise than my 06 Sportster)and I absolutely love the bike.

I was at the Dealer yesterday saw a beautifull two tone red crimson-sunglow 08 (bonerI tellya)

Now I have been reading here and other forums for months about the heat, shiftng noise in 07-08 looks like but damn that bike is beautifull.

I guess the best way is to test ride for a long way if the dealer lets you-I`ll ask..

Oh- out the door price $20,622.71
With ESP was $21,933.62

Will check out other dealers too..

So this new motor is what--2yrs old -right,but how many years in the testing stage??

My '07 Fat Boy runs pretty warm here in Southern California, and yes, I ride in shorts most of the time. The heat isn't bad when I'm rolling, but in stop-and-start situations it does get a bit toasty. Going with pipes, SEAC and PC III helped a bit, perhaps, as did going with synthetics. It still runs hot at times, especially when the ambient temperatures are up in the 100's, but it is certainly tolerable to me (even with shorts on).
