do the guys that have gone from 88 to 95",96",97" have this same prob?
As others have said, it seems that doing a stage 1 alleviates the heat a lot. I would venture to guess that not a single person that has upgraded their engine form an 88" to something larger has done so without also replacing pipes, AC and rejet or injector remap.

I rode around this weekend on my '07 Springer and will admit that at a couple stop lights the heat on my right leg got noticable, but I didn't exactly feel like I was getting a tan. As far as noise, I don't hear much if any engine noise while riding. I will say that there are two things I'm annoyed by, but one of them I'm going to chalk it up to the crappy EPA regs. Right after I start it up when the engine is warmed up I will sometimes get a bit of a sputter out of the pipes, and have stalled it once or twice. The sputter happened this weekend after I started back up after stopping at a gas station, and this was after riding about 20 miles from someplace else I'd stopped at, so the engine was plenty warmed up. The thing I will mention to the dealer is that knock when starting up. My friend that rides a Ducati heard that this weekend and thought I had thrown a rod or something. I know my Sportster is lound when shifting, but it doesn't have that knock when starting so I figure I should at least mention it to the dealer.

The only other annoying thing is a buzzing sound when I'm running at higher RPM's right before shifting, but I "think" that's the license plate (though it sounds like it's coming from the front). It's hard to tell sound direction when wearing a helmet, or when wind is rushing by the ears.

Yes, and my '06 88b is in the family to stay. I wasn't looking to save money buying it after the '07's came out; I just got too spooked from the forums to test the new engine. The new bikes are, indeed, beautiful. But, for me, 88 ci is plenty and should carry me the rest of the way for whatever time the Lord grants me. You know, there can be such a thing as too much bike. For years we all rode much smaller engines. For years no one thought twice about having to fix or adjust something at the side of the road. But I do sympathize with many of those complaining about a new bike coming in ill. In this day and age, HD has to realize that the buyers want bikes like cars, i.e., consistently trouble free, pretty much. But also, buyers of bikes have to remember that these things are bikes....Harley bikes. No two are alike. No guarantees for perfection in even a new one. Reading the posts, especially this thread, sort of points out the fact that today's buyers are far from the greased wrenches of the old days. In the old days, when a guy bought a bike and it had a noise, the guy went to the dealer and told the dealer exactly what was wrong. Nowadays, perhaps also due to so much new technology, we are becoming like the proverbial old lady who brings the car in to the shopand complains that she hears a noise. Times have changed. Regrettably, as us guys have come to know less about what we ride on, the dealer mechanics also seem to know less. Combine the foregoing with HD treading into new territory, and this can end up being a recipe for disaster. Maybe Honda smells blood, what with them offering to buy control of HD. I don't know. In short, prayers for all those wrestling with problems on the bikes. One thing for sure, beating each other up like this on the forum will help nobody.

Default 08 Heritage Softail Classic...hot and loud clatter???

Hi....been reading this thread tonight and I gotta say this.....

Bought mine brand new in may of 08, now 20 months and 24,000 miles later I can say yes, on a hot day when stopped or just riding slow in town it throws off a lot of heat but I was told about that when I got it and I can live with it, the noise is there but with the w/s off it is hard to hear (it does bounce up off the inside of the w/s when it's on)....all told it's a HOG and I love it. I range from long distance (1000 mile weekends at times) to commuting to work (12 mile round trips) and it has never skipped a beat.
As soon as this one is paid for I will be the proud owner of an Electra Glide Ultra Classic.....I am hooked!!!!!
Oh, yes it's the first HD I have owned but not my first bike....3 Yamahas, and one Ducatti previously so I don't think my opinion is totally naiive....

2007 with 21,000 miles. No problems, not even a 5th gear rattle. Maybe I just got lucky.
