Sloppy shifter at forward control
Shifter at the forward front foot control (Where the shift arm goes thru the foot control) is super sloppy. I can take the ofoot pad on the shifter and wiggle it and there is a bunch of play. Looks like whatever bushing in the mount is shot. What is it called and can someone recommend a source?
Is it really broke? If not, it hurts nothing. When you push, it removes all play. When you pull up, same.
The engagement dogs that lock in gears have a slight dovetail on them.
It helps lock in gear. If your a tad soft on shift say in winter bundled up, that play will pull away finishing the shift.
You occasionally here it as a clunk clunk.
A fancy spherical bearing so call up grade that's tight will make a Harley miss-shift.
Look here if that shifter has a bushing. Some have o-rings on side to keep out dirt. If grease and dirt chew up ring, they appear like yours.

Jackie, great link, found what I needed. Parts on the way Bearing sleeve, nylon washer, 2 orings = $10.95
IBE: Since its legal to be a jerk, I can say you are really excersizing that right
For those that dont know, even a factory servce manual does not have diagams on the shifter area that I needed. Only a PARTS manual does, that I dont have. It also shows not just a bearing sleeve, but 2 o-rings and a nylon washer as well: All are currently missing. I would have never known about o-rings and the nylon washer unless I saw the diagram, and again, one needs a proper part NAMES to get the parts in the first place, and to get all the related parts to ensure a good repair
To FIX a prob, you need to know the NAME of the parts, and exploded views help on the actual install : It saves time and wasted $$ on the wrong parts
Gee, been riding and wrenching for 40 years.........Dont know if I can handle a bushing and o ring replacement.............................Ill bet youre one of those riders that just past by folks with a roadside breakdown
............
Since you asked: QOUTE: why dont you fix it?? instead of asking here?? Asking is what this forum is for in the first place

It will be like new. I would put a dab of black moly CV grease on it. The o-ring seals are the key .. Take a while for it to affect o-rings. Probably overkill Record o-ring size in your service records. Next time you can get them at a auto part or ACE .
I also would clean threads and use a non permanent loctite product.
These tend to loosen unless you do a lot of wrenching . Now would be a good time to adjust shifter position for that sweat spot. I have size 12 feet . I like mine is a certain position with my fwd controls
I PM you another note on some detail
