Just bought a 2012 FLSTF. Rode it for the first time at night and everything goes off. It does come back on then intermittently go off.
Bad ground? BCM seems to be a common problem. Bike has 1700 miles and sat for a while.
Thanx in advance.
Hi there e-2012, welcome to HDF mate. While you are waiting for a reply, feel free to click HERE. <-- That will take you to the Welcome Area Only where you can tell us a bit about yourself, post a PIX of your bike if you like and it will give us guys a chance to say hi to you, get to you know you a bit and welcome you.

Does a 2012 have a BCM? I thought the BCM and canbus didn't come out until 2014? I would start by checking your relay's and loose wires under the console.
BCM was introduced in 11'. However I have a voltage reg code and a speedo B2272.
The orange charge light did come on. Also weird the fuel gauge and range in speedo is way off to. I filled up rode 20 miles and the gauge is just on red, the fuel light is on and the Range shows 55 miles.
The previous owner said he dropped the bike. In fact, he bent the right side brake lever and throttle handle.
Does the BCM control the charging system or the BCM just senses the voltage to put on dash light?
At this point I think you need to stop fretting about a BCM fault and do some actual diagnostics. It might be faulty but it is expensive!
B2272 BCM/IM voltage high
You need to check the charging system first. It shouldn't be above 15 volts but in reality it ought to be around 14.4 to 14.8 volts. It needs to measured accurately as 1/10ths makes a difference.
If you can find one get the electrical diagnostic manual as that describes how all the electrics can be tested.

Not an expert here for sure, so go easy. Always assumed never above 15. Always above 13.5.
Then the voltage regulator depending on battery condition and charge on it determines what you see as to a voltage range of 13.6 to 14.9. at 2000 rpm.
Of course, lights and such are on.
Is that wrong in general or just wrong for these new BCM bikes?

Not an expert either and in the past I would have gone with 14.4 volts being the correct charging voltage for a battery. Any higher continuously on a fully charged battery is liable to boil the electrolyte away, which is probably the main reason for the demise of most sealed maintenanceless batteries.
HD though seem quite happy if the charging circuit goes higher so that is all I can say from reading the electrical troubleshooting manual.
I would expect the BCM to be capable of handling higher voltages for self preservation with over voltage cut-offs for absolute protection on its inputs. I know it must have current limiting capabilities as it can report short circuits on most circuits and also fuses have been done away with.
Marc, I would remove the battery and have it checked. Needs a good full maintenance charge on it first before checking. It could have been damaged in fall. How old is it?
Then you will have a good connection and a known battery condition for sure.
Cear code and see if it comes back.

Any electrical issue, I first check for good 12V power. Load test the battery, check all battery cables to include the ground. If it all checks OK, then clear the code and see if it returns.
If it returns, check the BCM connector for dirty, corroded, or bent pins.... then go from there...
