Good luck with your mod..

Asking for opinions doesn't necessarily mean that every one posted is going to be agreeable with your point of view or what you're trying to accomplish. Pick through the ones that you think could help you and ignore the rest.
As you're seeing, snipping back will just drive potential help away.

To clarify, for myself, you want to increase the size of the fuel crossover line to allow for easy two tank fill up utilizing only the right side opening. And this is so you can install a Fuel Gauge on the left side opening.

Do I have this right?

When the factory went to one piece tanks for Softails (and other models) they have the tank going over the back bone to allow for filling from one side. I don't think you could get the crossover large enough that it would nullify the need for them to be a true single tank. I think even with a 3/4" line(which would look awful) you still will be sitting at the pump for a while waiting for the fuel to migrate to the left side tank. This would likely lead to impatience and never filling up completely.

I get what you want, but I think you are going about it from the wrong side. Have you thought about trying to fit a later model one piece tank on your bike? Maybe after market tank? Either way you are painting things so maybe this would be a better direction. Good luck.

There is nothing to gain. The cross over line just keeps the level in the two tanks even.
Nothing else. The fuel supply to the carb is on the left side. It could be 5/16 or 3/8
depending on the petcock and the type of carburetor

OP, the cross over hose on the bottom and the cross over vent on the top would have to be huge.
And would only benefit you when refueling.
It works via gravity, not pressure.
The pump pushes gas too fast.
Now that I've explained the physics of it, good luck.
