Ran it to work and back today. On the stand, it was the bottom line (when hot) of the dipstick. I've put another 1/2 quart in, ran it around for another 20 minutes and checked. I feel good about where it sits measures on the dipstick while on the stand, it's at a good level. Just at 3 quarts total. I appreciate the insights, look forward to learning more (and studying the manual more...)

Thanks everyone!

Sounds good but do not be afraid to run at the full level. If you could have added another 1/2 quart to get to the full level, you should have. No need to check cold again unless you just want to see how much has drained from the tank to the crankcase. On cold start ups after sitting a few days, you can pull the oil tank dipstick and watch as the oil is pulled from the sump back into the tank. I just wait until the head/cylinder are warm to the touch before taking off.

Is there something I should worry about or check? Or does the capacity fluctuate that much?
Even when you drain the oil bag, there is still quite a bit of oil in the engine. Best to get the oil level right by using the dipstick.

Here is a video on the subject-
