Default 2003 Heritage Softail Exhaust Questions

Hi Guys,

I was standing around recently as a friend pulled out and left. I remarked that his bike was LOUD. "Dude, your bike is louder than that," was the response. Yikes!

It has "Screaming Eagle" pipes. I'm wondering how hard it would be to swap for a set of stock pipes. I guess my first question is what do I have, exactly? Is it just the mufflers, or is the entire exhaust "Screaming Eagle?"

Thanks,

Hard to guess from here w/o a picture
Typically it`s just the mufflers not the headpipes

Easy enough to swap back to stock esp if the ones

you find include the interconnect tube/ mounting bracket ( item #17 in pic )
I suppose you could plug or weld the muffler ports shut

Just want to point out changing the exhaust usually also requires changing the fuel mixture and the tune. Too many riders want louder pipes and just change the exhaust then wonder why it runs different and pops on decel.

Thanks. I have that interconnect. Is there a different one for the stock pipes?

Is there something on the headers I can look at to see if they're stock?

Thanks. Mine currently pops on decel with the SE pipes. Runs good besides that though. Makes me wonder if the PO just put the pipes on and didn't do anything to the F-A mixture.

Ah, OK. Got it. I'm going to assume the interconnect fits both. Mine looks the same as the picture. Thanks for the help.

Hey Guys,

Is this what I'm looking for? The part numbers appear to match, but I'm not a Harley expert may any means and I don't really understand all the designations. thanks.

Parts fiche for your bike show both front & rear muffler being identical
#65413-00
the 65842-00A is a catalyst muffler for export
In the ad they do not appear to match.
Note the angle of interconnect "stubs"
I`d pass
Sorry

2000-2006 OEM Harley-Davidson FXST Softail Stock Mufflers 65413-00 65842-00A | eBay

I am assuming your bike was originally sold in the US. If so, your VIN will start with "1HD". I would contact the seller before making the purchase and make sure BOTH mufflers are part #65413-00....

Per the HD online parts finder, the 2003 Heritage Domestic models sold in US, use two #65413-00 mufflers.

That eBay add says "65413-00 65842-00A". The muffler part #65842-00A is the front muffler and part #65885-00 is the rear muffler on the HDI (Harley-Davidson International) models, sold outside the US...

I have no idea what, if any, difference there is between these domestic and international mufflers... but #65842-00A is not the same part number as the Domestic models use....

It's possible the seller doesn't understand the part numbers himself, but IMHO, I wouldn't buy a muffler that wasn't guaranteed to be part #65413-00 if you want OEM mufflers for your bike....

Good luck with your search...

NOTE: eighteight posted while I was still typing..... again....! He is much faster, and more succinct than I am...
