I started this thread yesterday at lunch time, didn't get any suggestions until after 7 pm. I went and bought parts this morning to try to follow suggestions from those who cared enough to actually try to help me. I only posted that it started this morning so " they " would know the situation, and that the bike started fine with no changes after only sitting overnight. Then I went and bought new parts, (plugs, battery, ignition), after i posted. I'm only saying this so you can inform whoever is telling you I'm not trying any suggestion that they are mistaken, and have bad information.

It sounds like when something just starts to get hot, it begins to fail or completely fails. That would point me to either a crank position sensor or coils.

Thanks, I was beginning to think along that path myself. I just put a new batt., ignition, plugs In today, but its raining ( finally) so it will be a bit before i can attempt a ride. I will try again to see what happens as soon as I can. What's strange is I rode rhe bike at least 30+ miles on Thursday, thought It was fixed before it stopped again within a half mile yesterday. That is why I thought maybe the ignition model may have an internal intermittent short. The motor is a stage 4 80 evo, with straight pipes, so it does tend to be a real shaker.

Cloudshaker I know you are frustrated by the issues with your bike.... Believe it or not, people are trying to help... even Dan89FLSTC....

If you look at your two posts above, after receiving several good suggestions (mine excluded, I misread your post ) you then posted about taking it for a ride, without any mention of what you did since those suggestions were made... if you mentioned that you tried some of the suggestions, I too missed it...

It is really difficult to try to diagnose an issue over the internet. We are not with you, observing and putting our hands on your bike. We only know what you tell us...

This and other forums are full of posts where people leave out very important sights/sounds/observations, don't follow suggestions and/or never return to post any outcome...

Dan knows Harleys, especially EVO bikes. He saw the suggestions offered to you, and your next post was about taking it for a ride.... it appeared to me, and probably to him, that you just took it for another ride to see what was going to happen...

I agree with TwiZted Biker and RANGER73.... Have you looked behind your points cover...? The cam position sensor is know to fail like they have pointed out...

One other item to check is the ground cable from the frame to the battery. Check it really good - flex it and really inspect it. Ground leads are a notorious problem in many vehicles with problems, from cars to motorcycles.

1st,
I never said anything about taking it for a ride,
I said I started it. I'm 67 years old, and live very rural, we simply can't get parts in the middle of the night here, so I couldn't do anything until I could get the rings to take the suggestions.
2nd,
I posted this morning only to make everyone aware that for some reason the bike that wouldn't start ladt night, and was backfiring, started perfectly this morning. I figured that may be valuable to someone's experience and knowledge.
Finally,
Guess we were raised different because even if I assumed someone wasent trying, I personally wouldn't see that as justification for being sarcastic and rude. If you do, the so be it. However that was not what I expected when joining the forum.
forum.I think instead of moving quick to insult someone I would take my time to see that I understand what they are saying. So you are reinforcing that it's ok to be sarcastic without taking time to let someone new explain themselves. Just so I know how the site works.

Thanks,
I checked all the wires as close as I could this morning when I changed the ignition module out.

Just FYI, I just figured out how to respond and quote to reply to someone trying to help. Hopefully you guys that are fluent with this process can understand that there may be people that are new and have to learn the process. Maybe think back to your start. I am a long way from being internet knowledgeable. I can easily take this bike to a mechanic and say fix it but it was my brothers bike and I would like to learn how to take care of her myself some. That is why I joined this site. There are numerous other sites but I thought this would be the best.

Ignition module under the seat or in the cone, right side of the motor?
