volkswagon honker
I realize it is not a thought or action by some riders, but my horns have 'saved my bacon' countless times over the last 50+ years of daily year around riding.
I don't actually know how many times the noise of my horns prevented unwanted contact with a cage, but I can extrapolate that horns have helped many times
by the obvious times they have helped.
There was the time I was approaching someone and it seemed like he was going to turn left in front of me. No signal, but from his speed it seemed like that
was his plan. When he heard my horn, he stopped suddenly, Proving my expectation was correct.
Then there was the time I was approaching a side street and a cage was slowly rolling up planning to turn right without stopping because there
was no cross traffic. He didn't see me. At least until he heard my horn. Then he stopped suddenly.
Then there was the time I was riding on a busy street and the cage to my right decided to change into my lane. At least until he heard my horn.
And those incidents involved the meep, meep of metrics. Whether or not other actions could have helped is irrelevant, horns helped.
And probably helped other of the countless times I used them over the decades.

I thought "whats with the volkswagon horn" indicated it is a loud horn?
Either way, my examples of the usefulness of a horn ae still valid.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
The old Harley Buick horns were great for this. The new ones are far weaker. No better than the Honda "meep meep" horns of old.
You can find multiple threads in the forums about upgrading the horns to something louder.
