Default Long stem versus short stem mirrors

Some of you might have the same issue as I do with the standard "short stem mirrors" that are on your Harley from the factory. I have a 44" chest size, and by the time I add an armoured leather jacket, I have difficulty getting a view of the road behind me. on either side, through the standard mirrors.

But I discovered recently that HD offers mirrors that are otherwise identical but have a "long" stem, that is 1.5 inches longer.

Here are photos comapring the two sizes:

Clearly, this is a significant difference!

probably because it is a safety-related item, each mirror costs "only" $65 Canadian = $50US.

I've ordered a pair.

Handlebar width will have a lot to do with it also.

I had them added to my new police Road King, but with 31.25” inch wide stock handle bars I still see too much of me in them. I would have kept the super long stemmed police mirrors, but they are not convex, so you can’t see squat with them.

Yeah, the convex feature really increases how much you see behind you. I consider that a really good safety feature on any motorcycle or car, but especially on a motorcycle, where we all have to assume the cagers are out to kill us, and do our best to anticipate their every move.

Amazon and eBay have the long stem police type mirrors that are convex. I have them on my 2019 FLHTP. The chrome is not as good as the HD police mirrors are. And I will play in my shop when I have time to try to remove the flat mirror and replace with the convex in the HD frame.
