Ok so Ive only posted a couple times so I hope Im not breaking any rules and Im doing this right, so I have an 04 standard and I just found a guy that has a set of 09 fat boy wheels for a decent deal Im only wanting the rear wheel for mine. Can anyone tell me what else I will need to do for it to fit I was really looking for the smooth rear wheel from around I think 06-09ish but prices are a bit more then I have extra right now so this will have to do but any advice would be greatly appreciated This is the rear wheel I want to fit on my 04 standard
OP, I am no expert on wheel swapping, but you might want to ask a wheel shop about that swap, or others on here may post up that I am worried about nothing.....
eighteight is right about the different bearings, but there are also some other parts differences between the two bikes..
Those two bikes have different rear forks, different wheel sleeves (between the bearings) and different wheel spacers (outboard the bearings). Plus the different bearings used, for the '09 25mm axle and the '04 .75" axle have different width measurements- 15mm v 21mm
I have no idea which year sleeves/spacers you would use for that swap, might need a custom size sleeve/spacer(s)....
I apologize if eighteight is correct that the only change would be the bearings and the '09 wheels will match right up using your current sleeve and spacers.... But the other differences just got me wondering...

I believe that wheel is from after they went to a much larger rear tire on the Softies. I would be concerned it would not fit under your older, narrower and better looking fender. Measure twice........
All those "06-09ish" FXST OE "Smooth" Rear wheels have a wider hub than your 2004, 6" wide rim and use a 200mm tire. Could you even fit a 2" wider tire under your existing fender? And then it would take custom work after that.
Not as simple as just changing some bearings ... sorry

I was talking to my shop about putting a wider back tire on on my 2004 FXSTSi. It has a 150/80/B16.
They said not without modification, just to put a new tire on 150 is the widest. My point being, what tire is on that 09 wheel?

Hmm, If you didn't see it, try the post right before yours?
