Even it you put it straight up to drain that last little bit out of the tank, and even if you pull the sump plug, there is still better than 1/2 quart left in the engine unless you do a complete oil change (purge). There are several ways to do that if you want ALL NEW oil in the engine after an oil change.

We have had it on our list to do a video showing how to do this for over 2 years. I think we will get to making that video in the next few months.

Here is a video that talks a bit about oil being left in the engine.

Mine is an 04. I have the stand on a 2X6 scrap. So it's pretty level, but I still lift it level for both oil bag and transmission.

Pretty much, primary on the stand gets it all.

Probably doesn't matter, there is a lot left on cam case side and trapped in pockets of heads.

Guess that's going to fire up the hook a hose and attach a IV to it crew.

I put my '04 Softail on a flip over stand most of the time then lift the front wheel and stick a block of wood under it to make the bike level. Usually, I'm draining all the fluids then. It's easier than getting my hydraulic lift out and strapping the bike to that then.
You can see by these attached pics I found on the old Interweb the oil tank is tapered to the drain side so it can actually be drained on the sidestand. As the FSM says. You can drain the Primary on the sidestand too but not fill it accurately. The transmission needs to be level to drain also as it does to be checked and properly filled.

I would also pull the fuel pump fuse.

Yeah, depending on what oil you use throwing away a qt can be adding extra cost to your oil changes. You'll never really get everything out of a motor unless you disassemble it and clean it. Cling, pockets, low spots, and don't forget lifters hold oil too. I'm OCD but not THAT bad!
Heck, I put new oil in my Cummins Ram Truck and as soon as I start it the oil is black.

I have the jiffy stand on a 2 x 4 block but don't level the bike on an engine oil change, but I make sure I remove the oil filter while the drain plug is still out. I've noticed that a little more oil drains out once the filter is removed. Is it enough to matter, likely not. But it's easy to do and add no cost to the maintenance.
