The wider tire look cool, but at the end of the day, you only end up using the middle portion of the tire.....the left and right sides don't get used resulting in a lot of wasted rubber! Just out of curiosity, how much does a tire that big cost? Is it a size that most shops normally carry or is it a special order item?

The bike does handle a little slower in corners , but for the most part it really is not that much different , I have noticed on the Big dogs ( have lots of buddies with them and I ride thiers alot} that the offset on their trans is close to 1/2 inch more than on mine which in turn does make thier bikes a little more heavier to the left, when we swap and ride each others bikes I am always struck by how much difference that 1/2 inch makes , mine really handles a lot better, and the twincam b is so much smoother, they make comments ,mine is like riding a Lexus compared to thiers, Now as MegaHD said I dont ride this in the rain , and it is not a canyon carver ( thats what crotch rockets ar for) most of my riding is just relaxed cruising , also because I have lowered the bike in front and rear I cant just tear throgh the turns without dragging the boards etc, so for my stlye of riding it works out great and I love the look.

i agree--i've also rode a big dog and the different was a lot different than my bike. i wasn't sure if it was the rake or their offset, but my bike tracks straight and if I let go off the big dog it wanted to go left. i can take my hands off the handlebars on my bike and it will go straight w/o a problem, doesn't feel like it's leaning or anything, and thats not possible with the pre-05 big dogs.

I like it! I run a 240 metz on my other bike and and to me it handles pretty much as it did with the stock tire.

Thanx BadX,
The more I ride the less I even notice any difference at all, but it is there and you must not forget and try to roll through a big curve lest you be reminded . I just got back from a toy run and almost got to see if MegaHd comments about rain and wet pavement were true but luckily I beat the rain home, I also added some pics of the build in my photo section , if anyone is interested.

Man I love that bike! It appears that you were able to keep the standard-width belt instead of going to a chain or narrow belt. I know HD uses a narrow belt on their new bikes with the 200 rear tire. The new narrow factory belt looks like it would shred. MegaHDman, have you seen any issues yet with the narrow factory belt?

Very nice. Needs a set of mesh style rotors. What are you using to lower the bike now?

I have HEARD of some remote cases where the new smaller 7/8" belt has failed on a few builds over the internet, but again, this is HEARSAY. From what I understand the new 7/8" belt is supposed to be stronger than the old/current 1 1/8" factory belt used on the 99'-06' twin cam rides. This is from the factory's and dealers mouth. But that to me doesnt hold much weight. I have seen alot of dealership and factory "claims" turn out to be 100% bullsh!t. So far, the few people in my area who have the narrow belt assembly have been happy and no known issues yet. I have 2 bikes converted to the 7/8" belt, one has been pictured here and is still under "construction". The other only has about 5k miles on it, but its holding up very well so far and the engine puts down a good amount of power. I didn't mind trying out the narrow belt since I get em real cheap. But I think this is a case of "the jury is still out" until there are alot of these narrow belted bikes out on the streets running some high horsepower engines to show how durable it really is overall.

Personally I love the look of the new belt. The slimline look is in line with that of a chain drive setup. I think its real slick looking.

Yes Sir, That is one mighty fine looking FatBoy. You have captured my vision so I hope you will not be offended if a few of your mod's end up on Skullit in the future (it's the best form of flattery). Great job.

Dogzhog,
I did use the same stock belt that came with the bike , also used the stock rotors, calipers, pulley and belt guard, one reason why i ended up using Heartland instead of PM , with PM you had to buy their pulley, rotors and calipers at the same time of the phattail 240 install, i guess the bolt pattern must be a little different on the phattail wheel, any way now I can come back later and replace the rotors and pulleys when I save some coin, PM kit would have cost around 3K more up front,

Jeffd ,
I do plan on replacing the rotors and pulley in the future ( see above) .I am using HD front lowering kit and White Brothers on the rear , the bike rides a little rougher than I would like and If my wife rides with me it will bottom out with a pretty could bump , I also Show the bike a lot so It looks better lowered when showing so I plan on installing an air ride system , was going to put in the Legend air but earlier MegaHD suggested I look at progressive air so I intend to do that fisrt and compare, it always pays to do your homework first , I have been told I am really **** about doing this ,but it usually works out for me.

nztbp6,
I am flattered you would like to emulate some of the mods I have made to my bike, as long as you and Skullit dont live at the end of my block and I have to see it everyday , kind of like two women in the same dress anyway Thanks bro
