I have been riding my Heritage Softail Classic for the last 4 weeks Topped off engine oil when I started riding it, and had to add oil today as it was down into the add section of the stick. It doesn't leak a drop, and it doesn't smoke so where does the oil go? Is this normal?
Have you read the owners manual on proper way to check oil? Is the last oil maintenance recent?
How many miles in last week and how have you been running it?
It's not unusual for some to bang the rev limiter ever gear change or do 95 down the interstate..
See its up to date 4 weeks ago. You sure you got drain hose correct?
Yes I have read the manual on how to check the oil. I put about 700 miles per week, for the last 4 weeks. My bike became my daily commuter to work when my SUV head gasket blew. I do not bang the rev limiter, and speed varies a bit 50mph off the island Aproximately 30 mins , then 70-80MPH for about 15 mins 60-65MPH for next 20 mins after that. Averages 100 miles a day commute to work and home, on the trip counter when I fuel up on the way home. Yes drain hose is correct. I put a new drain hose on last july as the old one started leaking sitting in my nephews garage, while I was working out the paperwork issue. Has not leaked a drop since then.
Check the level AFTER you crank it not start it as the oil seeps past the ball valve and collects in the sump
at the bottom of the engine. Then it gets pumped back into the oil tank.
Are you checking the oil with the engine warmed up, setting on the side stand? The oil drains down into the sump when the bike sets overnight so you need to run the bike for a few minutes to pump the oil back to the oil tank. Shut it off and then check the oil level.
