I too had the crap scared out of me the first time I scaped the boards. Now I know the limit so I don't do it as much. I still ride the bike very fast and hard threw the twisties without any problems.

I see it as one of the passive road safety devices HD built into the Heritage and Deluxe.... it stops me from going to hard round corners!

I went from a crotch rocket to the FLSTC and I scraped the pegs first time out with the wife on the back... scared the b-jesus out of her, I thought it was funny. So far I have scraped the right floor board twice in 3 months.

Yep, they'll scrape if you want them to. I hunga bell on each side, on the floorboard brackets. Now, when I hear the bell I know I'm getting close. Then I justslow down a bit and I'm good to go.

It's not a big deal. If riding hard and fast through the twisties is your thing, trust me..it's still possible on a Heritage, Fatboy, or Deluxe. I've came up with a technique for doing it that really works for me. As i'm taking the curve, I put weight (hang my knee out a bit, slide my butt over that way, etc.) towards the inside of the curve, keep the bike as upright as possible, and doing so allows me to actually steer the bike through the curve sort of, rather than counter-steering, thus I have to use very minimal leaning of the bike. I dunno, it works for me..and may be hard to convey in text what I mean..but maybe someone will understand.

I scrape all the time. It all has to do with ground clearance.I scrape in parking lots, pulling out onto roads, etc... IMHO it has nothing to do with speed. I havemade some drag bolts to try to save my floorboards. Have to replace them about every two trips on the Dragon.
Maybe you need to change your fork oil. The bike should'nt scrape on everything. HD puts in # 10 oil which I think is too light for a bike that size.# 15 is perfect,no scrapes unless on running hard in the corners. 2cents.

I wouldnt worry about your floorboards hitting every once and awhile. Last weekend I scraped my primary cover on my Deuce, that sucked.

It's normal if you're a good rider. Pegs and boards are hinged upward so you won't get too much weight on them and unload the weight from the tire. You'll find some rubber gone from the bottom of pegs or some metal filings hanging on the bottoms of floorboards but it's normal. (Careful feeling for those filings. Nice way to get a nasty splinter.)
