Ok - back out to my shop.
Started reading through all the troubleshooting schematics. Funny how easy it is for the arrows o take you to "replace ECM" "Replace XXX" - like it's your money they are spending !
Since the MAP didn't work.....
If your trouble shooting with the electric diagnostic manual points to the ECM.... I wouldn't mess with the pressure regulator (it showed good pressure during your test)...
I'd either replace the ECM or get a shop with fresh eyes to give it a look...
Here is my plan, probably stupid, but it is the only direction I can think of going at this point.
1. Put the seat back on and ride it to evaluate. See if it goes back to the horrible running condition it was that one Friday, or just the chuffing in the intake at cold start conditions.
2. Check for air leaks. I did, but maybe I missed something. The chuff in the intake is trying to tell me something.
3. Do some reading on how to check the intake air temperature sensor.
4. Cry, cry like a little girl...
5. Buy an OEM ECM, and cry some more.
Lastly, for anyone ever in this spot in the future. The HD MAP sensor comes with the special rubber sealing gasket. No need to buy the separate one. Now I have an extra.
