Default Spring solo seats

I have a 2003 softail springer that I’m currently using an aftermarket spring solo seat. I don’t really care for the look of the mounting baseplate as it’s aftermarket and is generally not easy to get on and get off in a timely manner. I see a number of parts that Harleys used over the years to include one that they say is for 1985 to 94 softails and the ones that they made for the 2008 and later bikes like the crossbones. Does anybody have any kit that they used for those earlier 2000 models? Has anybody tried the crossbones setup on an earlier model?

I've had a few sprung seats on my bikes ('04 Heritage, '05 Springer, '06 Road King Classic.)
I liked 'em all. But, could you show us what is currently on your bike?
Are you looking for a "police style" mounting system with the T-bar suspended with an air bag or spring (later models)?
I've got the V-twin mfg version on my Heritage (was also on the Springer) and if I want to lift the seat, all I have to do is pull a cotter pin and it rotates up outta the way. The "pogo" section with a small spring in it simply screws into the base, so if I need to remove the pan under the seat, I can just unscrew that and I'm staring at the battery. No tools necessary.

or,

Let us see what you've got, and we may be able to help.

So I have a base and seat for Mother road Customs currently. It’s aftermarket. Overall, it’s worked, but I do wanna look at other options; primarily something that looks like it is designed for the bike. He’s of access to the battery, etc is my biggest focus. Switching out to a police seat or other would certainly be fine, but I do like the nostalgia look of the springs too. Finding old crossbones parts has been something I’ve been looking into, but there’s a lot of people online that are selling them for absorbent prices. Let me dig up some pictures of my springer.

I liked it too! Has the single "pogo" support in the center, just like the OEM ones had until the early '80s. It fastens differently, but looks very much the same. It also has a small spring in it so it helps smooth out the road a bit more. Here's a link to it on Dennis Kirk's website: https://www.denniskirk.com/v-twin-ma...prd/277921.sku

The seat is also on there for $150. Not bad when you compare with the Corbin Gentry stuff. Now, it isn't Corbin quality, but it isn't bad either!

And, not to derail the thread, but here's my Heritage with that same seat setup.

what year is the heritage? Looks like you have the 2008+ base plate on it.

It's an '04. If by "base plate," you mean the cover under the seat, then yes. It's off a Crossbones. I used one on both the Heritage and the Springer. Needed a little bit of modification, but not bad. Closes things up pretty well. I did a thread on it here a while ago.

I found one on Fb, but you can still get them through H-D. I was using the single (pogo-style) support, so I didn't need the spring base seat bracket under the plastic cover. We just filled the holes with black push-pins. The holes aren't really obvious, and the raised section doesn't offend me at all. LoL...

I would think the "best" option is to find a metal fab shop and have them
make something that fits tight to the frame and does not look out of place....

Here's my "flat pan" version (as shown in the other thread).

good luck,

T.
