Hi everyone,
So my Softail Slim decided it wants to start when everything is in the off position. The signal wire to the starter has 12v all the time when the battery is connected. So I have it narrowed down to 2 possible items. The right handlebar control module or the BCM. I found two of the wires that goes into the handle bar control module had some discoloration on the sheathing. I took the switch apart and it looked like the solder for the ground terminal had separated. The switch came apart a little to easy. I disconnected the plug for the switch and the 12 volts was gone. I bought a used one and it didn't work. So I'm waiting for a new one to be shipped. Anyway that's where im at right now. I would like some input from you guys to maybe give me somemore insight. Thanks in advance.
It sounds like you've done solid troubleshooting. A damaged right-hand control module is the most likely culprit, especially with that discolored wiring and the voltage issue stopping when it's unplugged. The fact a used one didn't work points to it either being faulty too or a deeper BCM issue, but the physical damage you found makes the switch the prime suspect. Hopefully the new one fixes it. If not, then you'll have to dig into the BCM.
