Fuel gauge wrong reading...

Update.. obviously it is not enough to just drain the tank and expect the fuel light to go on... Today I put 4 liters (a bit more than 1 gallon) in an empty tank and after 20km (12 miles) the fuel light turned on! Ok the kilometers left were still of, it was showing 100km (62 miles) but at least I know, that the light is working😁.
so it looks like it needs some sort of update from kilometers(miles) riden to turn the light on...🤷🏼♂️

I have a 2006 Heritage and the fuel gauge hasn’t been accurate since it was new. When the gauge shows empty, there is still 2-2.5 gallons left. I have just learned to ignore it and go by mileage.

I replaced the sending unit on my 07 Heritage. I had to go aftermarket since the sending unit is no longer made. My old sending unit had died and was showing empty all the time. The low fuel light stayed on plus it was throwing a fuel code as well. I dont remember what the code was now. Its been a while.
I remember before I replaced the sending unit, I placed a 120 ohm resistor between the wires going to the fuel gauge to make it read close to 1/2 tank, make the low fuel light go off, and clear the fuel related code.
Back to the aftermarket fuel sending unit. It works but is not accurate. Ive learned to never trust the fuel gauges on these older bikes anyway, so I always do as mentioned above, Use the trip.
