Default Heritage bags for the Deluxe- pls advise

I want to put a set of Heritage style bags on my '06 Deluxe. Problem is that Heritage bags mount with bolts that are spaced closer together than those for the Deluxe. Seems I will have to drill into the struts. Here is where I need advice:
1. If I drill two additional holes into each strut, will I degrade the structural integrity of the strut?
2. What can I do to save my Deluxe passenger seat back, which mounts onto the Deluxe saddlebag bolts and which would then be obstructed by the new bolt holding the Heritage bag?
3. Perhaps I should modify the Heritage bag bracket itself instead of my Deluxe strut?

[I was never overjoyed with the Deluxe' small, hard bags, but I tolerated them. Now that I have a set of Heritage bags, I must get them on, no matter the fate of the passenger seat back!]

Thanks people!

The 07 strut has all three holes. That could be an option. Buy some new struts.

05,
I was hoping not to get into having to buy new struts. Sounds like a mission -and costly. But I notice that the mounting bar on the back of the Heritage bags can be modified relatively easily and I am going to try doing that.

Do yourself a favor and go look at Boss Bags before you do anything!

Ronyd,
I will post pics and a run-down of what I do. Actually, after having a look at the Heritage bracket, it appears that there is more than one easy way to do this.

I would think that the location of the exhaust on a Deluxe would be a bigger issue than a bolt hole.

If you are still running a shotgun style exhaust mounted high like on the stock Deluxe or Fatboy, you will need to relocate the pipes to gain clearance for the larger bags. The stock exhaust is why the bags for the Deluxe are small to begin with.

Doc, I'd also suggest you check out and contact www.easybrackets.com Give them a call after you check out the web site and Dave there will help you get the right brackets and hardware for your install.. The install for the Heritage bags on your Deluxe will be quick and easy AND the bags will be detatchable as well as your backrest.

Growl,
Thank you very much for that link. I will certainly review their product video before I do the mod myself using my own stuff/junk! Thanks.
