my 01 runs 200 degrees oil temp, and it's hot here...my friend's 07 runs 260 oil temp (Amsoil), and he has true duals/Kand N/ VandH fuelpack...not sure if 260 will hurt it, but it is quite a difference
My 02 FLSTCI runs 250 at 70 MPH on a hot day. It has the SE AC and SEII pipes. Its not that the temp is to hot for me,it seems like 250 is too hot for the oil, lowering its viscosity and not protecting the engine like it would at 200 degrees. I put synthetic oil in all three holes and it still runs at 250. I'll be getting a FULEPAK in the next couple of weeks to see if that will help any. If not I'll try an oil cooler to see if that will help.
My 110 runs 20 to 40 degrees cooler than my wifes 96.V&H exhaust, Pro_R charger, SERT. I stuck an oil cooler on it and it made no difference or none that I could notice. I lifted the tank 2 inches and helped it out alot. I never get above 260.
My 07 Heritage runs hotter then a friends same year and model, we both agree when switching bikes that mine runs hotter. Would like to know why, but will probably just have to live with it.
Same issue with my wife's bike and mine. Identical bikes except for the color. Hers is red and black, mine is blue and black. I guess the Red paint on the body parts must cause the engine to run hotter, because her's was so hot it would quit running. Dealer claims it is normal, so I guess mine must not be normal. I need to take it back and get it fixed so when we ride side by side mine will Quit running also.
Of course the dealer says it's normal, since Harley writes the specs for themselves that are "normal". But ask what normal is, I belive it's a wide varience. I wonder how many people convicted of a crime would spend more then 5 seconds in jail if they wrote the sentencing guidlines for themselves???
Four inch blister on my leg in December says the newer bikes run hotter. Also, it probably depends on what part of the country your in as to justhow hot the bikes get. So saying those who can't take the heat are Pansy's is just plain arrogant. Besides, when paying this kind of money for a bike the bike should be comfortable for anyone to ride.
