I'm thinking about getting billet grips to match my pegs (Harley Wide Band). I've never had metal grips before. I rode a rental Duece once with billet grips but like an idiot I wasn't wearing gloves and they tore up my hands.
They look good, but I'm wondering how they are in the rain, if they increase felt vibration, and if they have any other drawbacks I haven't thought of. I'd appreciate any coments from anyone running billet grips. Thanks in advance!
I have the billet grips from wild1. The only problem I have is in cold weather. It's like holding onto ice cubes. I nowwear heated gloves though.
Other than that they are great. They shouldn't be rough on your hands. I never wear gloves until the winter.
Yeah i have billet grips and yes they are damn cold in winter and they show up every fingerprint. But hey they look cool.
Have not noticed any more vibration than the chrome and rubber HD grips i had.
I tried riding a friends bike with a set of knerled (sp?) grips on. They looked great, but like you say, they would be reallytough on bare hands. Didn't bother me much causeI never ride without at least some kind of glove on. But the diamonds were so sharp on his that I'm sure they wouldchew up any glove that was not made withdecentleather.
The vibration didn't seem to be any worse than my stock grips, my right hand still startedbothering me after the usual 25 or so miles. The weight of them might even act as a vibration damper on some bikes. A lot of thecrotch rockets have a big chunk of aluminum attached to ends of their grips to helpdampen out some of thehigher frequency vibrations. Not sure how well or not the principalworks with thehigh amplitude, low frequency thumping of a big twin. But every bit helps I guess.
Man this site has so much usefull info! I just bought a set of centerline grips to replace my worn out skull grips, anyhow I really wanted billet grips but shyed awayfrom them. Next time I'll try a set of billets.
I have the narrow band billet stuff on my Train. I like it. I don't notice much vibration but the longest trip I have taken with them is 1.5 hours. The narrow, or in your case wide, band is there for friction and should help in the rain but I hardly ever ride in the rain.
