1997 Heritage Springer Softail.. what do you think?
Hi Guys
Looking to buy my first Harley and have been researching like mad and asking all my friends that own harleys their opinion ... have just found this site and have already got some great information..
I am looking at (amoung others) a 1997 heratige springer softail, and would like to hear from other owners or anyone that might have an opinion about this bike.. it has a 1450cc engine (88ci) I believe they fisrt came out with a 1340cc engine that had a few problems with vibrations at around 75mph... I will be riding mostly highway and winding coastal roads.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Magpie,
I'm biased, but nothing beats a Heritage Springer.I own two. I know many people that own two, and know a guy that has four.. It's a disease.
Both of mine are Twincams, but I know owners of the EVO's said they vibrate at lower speeds. I rode a 97 over the summer and it actually smoothed out at speeds over 70MPH
The 97 drips of nostalgia. You didn't mention the price of the 97..
PM me...I have another website of interest for you.

They are beutiful bikes. I almost bought a 2003 HS this year but decided to keep my Deluxe for now. The 1997 White with Blue trim is the nicest. I never heard of them coming with the 88's though.
If you really want opinions on the Heritage Springers take a look over at HeritageSpringer.com, this site is dedicated to that bike and the owners are fanatics. I'm sure they will give you ton's of advice and info.

I have two myself. Of the 4 bikes I own the Springers get ridden the most. They define nostalgia and the harley riding experience. The bike that gets ridden the least is the 07Ultra with the Jim's 120. Feels like I'm half in a car with the freaking cockpit and all the attending instrumentation and radio crap. I'm going to sell it in the Spring to someone who wants a half-biker experience.

If it's a '97 it's got a 1340 evo, great engine. Great bike, snag it if it's less than $10k and less than 20K miles. I believe '97 was the first year for the HS.
RE: 1997 Heritage Springer Softail.. what do you think?
I just bought the exact same bike a few weeks ago. Mine is in great shape with 49,000 miles.I was a little afraid of the motor with that many miles, butthe consensus is evo's will run a long time if taken care of. Its fairly smooth and does vibrate some around 65 mph but seems to smooth out. I just found some SE slash cut pipes on line that I switched and I'm not too happy with them so far. Was hoping for something a little louder. It did liven the engine up some.

Ibought a '97 FLSTC two years ago with only 3800 miles, now have almost 16K.........never a problem except the starter replaced. Runs great.....sure it doesn't have the 6 speed, EFI, etc stuff like the new bikes, but it's a great Harley for a great used price! Isplit the pipes to have it look more like a Springer, added RUSH slip-ons (2"baffles), some decorative stuff and it always gets compliments......very nostalgic. Even if I decide to buy a new bke, I'd still keep this EVO carb...................good luck!

Just sold my 01 Heritage Springer. Sometimes these things just have to be. I love her still. Bought her sight unseen and bone stock and made her into a wonderful riding companion with a VERY strong heart. Summer of 06 did over 3,500 miles on her in two weeks. Beartooth Pass, Yellowstone, Tetons, Sturgis and then the last stretch from Denver back to Vegas in one run of 798 miles. I recommend that you go for it. Pull the chain. Get the FLSTS!!!
