I can't say how many thousands of times I have tried shifting into that last gear when on the highway and it wasn't there....now it is...
Got the Screaming Eagle 6 speed gear set (w/od) installed today... and it's nice....smooth and positive. A 12,000mile (excellent condition) 5 speed gear set will soon be on sale....
i am sooo jealous. i would love to add a 6th gear to my 04. i have it on my way down the line wish list. they just installed the gear set not replaced the entire trans? did you price out the difference between swap out or gear set? i might take on the swap but i don't think i do the other.
good luck with it and let us know how it feels.
bill
The entire trans is $700 more then just the gear set..
The amount of labor was quoted the same... 6.5 hours for both..
But to replace the entire trans requires more extensive removal of equipment, like the oil tank, starter...... the gear set requires some mods to the orig. trans housing...dremel tool work...so I went with the gear set... and glad I did....
WOW! I'm so jealous!
I dropped an OD tranny in my old vette so I clearly understand the difference! Often I tried to shift one more time than my bike has! WOW! I'm so jealous! Maybe one day!
isn't there a difference, though? I thought the final ratio on the 07/08 6 speeds was the same as 5th on the five speeds. Not really an OD. is that right?
