i enjoy riding having travelled over 7000kms in 10 mnths with my first bike, but i also can understand the joy of having a harley parked in my garage for "looks" value as well...but i guess if thats the only reason you purchased the bike then you either have money to splash or some either reason perhaps fear is stopping you from riding.
lets hope more of these people buy harleys so that we can purchase late model replacements with few miles
Doing a 400 mile ride up to Nagano (Japan) and back this friday 11/2. Any one stationed in Japan (Kanto Area) down for a killer but a little chilly ride hit me up!
Because they are just horrible people and we all need to judge them to make ourselves feel better. Im glad we are so much better than those people. I feel so good about myself because I put more miles on my bike than those people. I am a much better person than those people.
I've had my Fatboy for 2 years,13000 miles. Those of you that are lucky enough to ride every day,or a few days a week,be thankfull. My job requires me to have a truck full of crapp, files, reports, tools, and yes the "yuppie"computer and blackberry.Every day I spend an hour in the forum,my only "biker"time,5-6 days a week. When the absolute, must be done stuff is taken care of around the house,me and my Fatboy are gone for as many miles as possible. When I'm riding, its great, when I'm not riding, its where my mind really is.
I bought my 1999 Fatboyin the Spring of '04 with 2200 miles on it. That's an average of 440 miles per year put on it. Since then it has over 14,000 on it. My average is around 4,000 per year (I had to take a gov't issued year off), but I think most of the miles were put on this past year.
Hey, the less miles these guys put on, the better it is for the new owners. Imagine buying a "used" bike with only 2,000 miles on it for a lot less? Sweet, ya know?
Now that the weather is getting cold here, it takes me longer to suit up than it does my 6 mi ride to work...but I do it because I'm addicted to riding! Even lugging my work clothes and towel and shower stuff to the gym and then going on to work is worth the"hassle". Riding is like chocolate! You can never get enough!
This is my first full riding season and I've done 5-6k. Hard to really tell because hubby and I switch off bikes some times and my '05 Deluxe in signature is getting new tins so it's been sitting for a while...good thing we have a "spare" Harley!
I bought my current bike to ride with military brothers and sisters (weekend events mostly).
I ride it to work on good days when I dont need to haul gear. I ride it for short trips due to gas cost. I cant carry anything on my Night Train and like that.
I am a Police Officer andnow a Guardsman (was active duty), but every few years I go to fight in a war (I seems more often lately). Next year I go back to Iraq for a year so miles will be low to me on my 07 Train in 09 when I get done. If I get injured miles will stay low till I can ride again or sell it.
I know many people who buy bikes or cars and put very few miles on them. They ride in "hoopties" daily and use the nice rides for set events. I also know many who buy bikes and are not riders so they sit.
My bikes get about 200-500 miles a month.
Good Luck in Iraq. I appreciate what you guys are doing over there, and would join you if I could.
When I don't ride it's because:
It's raining (seems I get caught often enough anyway)
It's freezing (who wants pneumonia?)
It's 100 in the shade (who wants heat stroke)
I am sleeping, working, getting soused, getting laid, hunting or a few other worthy alternatives.
Just don't feel like going anywhere.
when I bought my 05 it was 1year and 10 mo. old...perfect cond....showroom stock and only had 340 mi. on the clock.... had only been for saleat the dealership for about a week...I was told some guy traded it and another bike with 800 miles on it (don't know which one) for an 06 deluxe and took a beating on the trade...I guess he had to have the latest thing ..prolly has about 500 miles on it now...oh well. his loss is my gain
