i've got 7000mi on my 06 deuce, bought july 4, 06. mostly long weekend trips. i'd love to do more, i consider it more than a hobby but!! i work sometimes 6 days a week and that includes every saturday (the car business) and my off timeis devoted to my little girls, now when they have sleepovers and stuff like that--i'm gone.
My neighbor has a bike in his garage and I have never seen him on it, heard it run or even seen it out of the garage! I did notice the big HD boot box at the garbage though!
I built my chopper as a sporting bike, I don't put on a lot of miles, just 50-100mi at a time around my rural area just for fun. Bikes have always served as backup when my primary truck/car is down for repairs and a lot of miles just riding to work. I have never judged myself by the mile, just by the smile!
I've been riding bikes for over 45 yrs safely until a 19 yr old chic recently left turned in front of me on one of my favorite 2 lane country roads to work. Neither the bike nor me will put on any miles for the next few months, we both have healing to do!
Some people cant ride thier bike daily like most of us do becuase of thier work restrictions. IE: My brother in law wears a full suit/tie to work daily and its not feesable for him to keep a change of clothes at work just so he can ride.My other Brother In law is a Lawyer and he also does the suit/tie combo so they just cant ride as much as they would like.Believe it or not there are many proffesionals that ride/have harleys and just cant do it daily due to work attire restrictions etc. Not because they have too much money or they are posers etc etc( Insert cool statement here ).Im just lucky that Im a grease Monkey low life Aviation Mechanicthat can wear Jeans and T-shirts to work. If you ride daily consider yourself Lucky that you can.
My situation exactly. I envy those of you that can ride your bike to work everyday as well as those of you that don't have to work at all. I on the other hand wear a suit and tie to work most days. Those days that I don't have meetings or real work $hit, like today, I ride my bike. I put about 8500 miles a year on my last 2 bikes, and 95% of that is usually every other weekend when I don't have my two boys. It's great being rich and good looking and being able to buy a new bike every couple of years, but I would rather have the time to put 50,000 miles on my bike every year. NOT REALLY! But I do cherish the time that I do get to ride.
I don't know why some people don't ride there bikes, but for me I bought my new Fatboy in march of 06 and I just rolled over 18,500 miles and I live in Nebraska and only get to ride 9 months out of the year. So I guess it's there lose.
WHO CARES!!!! Every time something like this comes along you get a bunch of people jumping in trying to outdo each other."I ride 13 months out of the year ,25 hours a day and have500 miillion miles on my o5 fxbghtrbzl.Nobody really gives a rats -ss.!!!!
your riding buddy,
Captain M.
My '03 FXSTS has 4,600 miles on it. I ride when it's not raining, and don't really care if it's 90 degrees or 30 degrees outside. Why don't I ride more? I travel about 75% of the time. I have 2 toddlers at home that I like seeing when I am in town. My wife has MS, so that obviously takes a toll on my 'free' time.
I think it's flawed notion that all low mileage bikes are owned by people that can't ride, or just have more money than they do interest in biking. I'd ride my bike a lot more if the opportunities were there more frequently. It's hard to ride your own HD when you're working in China or Japan. But I sure think about it a lot!
My problem is "when"... Take kid#1 (almost 3 yrs old) to school in the morning, and the weekends are spent actually spending time with the kids as I don't get to see them but maybe an hour/day during the week. Fatherhood with two little itty bitty tikes cuts into the riding quite a bit.. The will is there.. but the time isn't. So I appreciate the trips to lowe's / home depot to pick up goodies that will fit in the bags. Thank God for saddlebags. hehe
One reason I appreciate bags big enough to haul gallons of milk with a 12pack and bread, and veggies and even more groceries.
