I believe the insinuation is that ppl that only ride a couple hundred miles a year are not really bikers/riders. I would have to agree. It's not a self-worth or ego boosting matter for the rest of us. It's more of a qualification.
Let's face it, if somebody bought a bike because they liked the "idea" of having a bike, but never really rides it, they aren't much of a rider at all. They want to be one, but they aren't. They dress like one (except the clothes are new/unworn). The words "poser" and "wannabe" come to mind.
I think people should be proud of the miles they log. It's a level of experience and committment they can be proud of. I'm proud of the fact that I have a bike that I bought on October 4th of this year and it's got 1441 miles on it already. I like to ride. Always have.
WHO CARES!!!! Every time something like this comes along you get a bunch of people jumping in trying to outdo each other."I ride 13 months out of the year ,25 hours a day and have500 miillion miles on my o5 fxbghtrbzl.Nobody really gives a rats -ss.!!!!
your riding buddy,
Captain M.
Couldn't agree more. I don't care what other people do with their bikes. I don't even care if they ride at all. I don't ride to impress other people, I ride because I want to and because I enjoy it. And, I ride when I want to which is most every day.
Like Babs said, a lot of people have other more important responsibilities than riding.
Ride when I can. Really glad there is a lot of folks who buy one just to have one. Think how much a Harley would cost without them. Bless them all, even the ones who just bought one to look at it .
I ride as much as I can, I don't care about anyone else's time in the saddle.
I put on adecent amount ofmiles, and ice, heavy rain, and work are mainly the only things that keep me off the bike.
Hard ta carry 2000 lbs of tools on the bike! LOL!
BTW, the guys in the service dept at the stealer told me the average bike they work on gets about 6000 miles/yr.
That's here in Albq, but consider that.
I'm so proud of the miles when I sent in my HOG mileage cert and they responded with 100 miles on my new bike (I only have one) I called and talked to a representative and complained. She read back the VIN and it didn't match my bike. The rep re-entered the VIN that was registered and it didn't even exist in the Harley files as a built Harley. They gave me the miles and the patch and that made me feel better. I ride, I love to ride. I can't always find the time...but I do try to make it.
iPod and the open road. Its all about the journey.
I was at a HD dealer saturday for a blood drive when I overheard some old guy talking about buying a new bike. He said his 08 dyna was too narrow, so he bought an 08 ultra classic to go along with it. He also said the longest ride he'd taken was 10 miles!! 10 MILES! That made me think of all the bikes I've seen for sale (including mine when I got it) that have NO miles and are quite a few years old. Mine is an 06, and it had 1300 on it when I bought it in late July. It has close to 6000 now, which isn't much riding I guess, but it's more than the last owner did. Why do people spend so much on a bike to not ride it? I'm sure plenty here are the same (NOT everybody of course). I just don't understand. Ah well..
It's not hard to figure out. I just finished a 2938 mile round trip from Maryland to Key West with a stop in Daytona (do it twice a year) and couldn't keep count of the number of posers with those $55,000 Harleys. You know the ones, $20,000 for the bike and another $35,000 for the Dodge dually pickup to haul it in. But if that's what makes um happy, that's OK with me.
i must admit to getting an 07 and planning to do only 3-4000k each year - it also helped on my insurance.... 6 mths later and I have already done considerably more ..... finding it difficult NOT to use the bike , a real shame. grzly
So if a person owns a few Harleys, but only does a few hundred miles on one he holds as his pride and joy, he is afake even if he does 20,000 miles a year on another bike???
