Got my 2007 Fatboy in march and have enjoyed all the 4,500 plus miles thus far. It's getting down below 32 at night here in eastern washington state- but am still riding.
Something really neat about being up early on my mid-week day off , and heading east and just digging being on the bike though it may be a hair above 32 degrees out ----LOL leather up, and ride!
My HD Fatty is the best mental therapy in my mid-life crisis that I could have ever had!
My only regret is, that i don't have 9k on it! And well- and red shift cam from Zippers, D&D Fatcat pipe, and ..... LOL
Just looked on E-Bay and there are 7 Springer Classics on their that are from 2005-2007 and not one of them have over 3,000 miles. Not sure but I think I had that many the first month I after I bought mine.
Personally, it is obviously a personal thing as when to ride for folks. I could really care less when people decide to ride or not. I'm with CA on this one. Please put less miles on your (possible my future) bike. That way it'll be in good shape. But really it is a personal matter;lots of things dictate the ridin' scene. I like to keep a close eye on mine, just an old fashioned padlock for me, among other thngs. JMO.
Some people cant ride thier bike daily like most of us do becuase of thier work restrictions. IE: My brother in law wears a full suit/tie to work daily and its not feesable for him to keep a change of clothes at work just so he can ride.My other Brother In law is a Lawyer and he also does the suit/tie combo so they just cant ride as much as they would like.Believe it or not there are many proffesionals that ride/have harleys and just cant do it daily due to work attire restrictions etc. Not because they have too much money or they are posers etc etc( Insert cool statement here ).Im just lucky that Im a grease Monkey low life Aviation Mechanicthat can wear Jeans and T-shirts to work. If you ride daily consider yourself Lucky that you can.
I bought mine last 2 weeks ago and have 700 miles on it. It rained all last week so I didn't ride but this week it has been in the high 30's and I have ridden to work. My ride is about 52 miles 1 way.
This is my 6th street bike.
I was at the dealer this past weekend to get my lojack installed and they were also having a demo with a band and such going on. A man and his wife were taking delivery of a brand new soft tail. I asked him what he was coming off of and he said with a smile, " This is my first".
His wife said, "Yea, he did it right the first time."
I said to him, "I hope you don't find after 1000 miles that you don't actually like to ride." And walked off.
Purchased my Night Train in March 2007 almost 5K with only one 300 mile ride. My kids sports have come first for me and I cannot pick them both up from practice at the same time on the bike (my 14yr. old son would kill me if I made him ride on the back of my bike), considering a sidecar though (just kidding)! With year round sports and work, vacations and long trips are not an option for me right now.

Now that the weather is getting cold here, it takes me longer to suit up than it does my 6 mi ride to work...but I do it because I'm addicted to riding! Even lugging my work clothes and towel and shower stuff to the gym and then going on to work is worth the"hassle". Riding is like chocolate! You can never get enough!
I have a short commute (unless I take the long way! ) and yeah, it's worth it to "suit up" when it's cold!
Even when it's warm around here, I only see a couple of riders on my way to work and back. When the temps drop below 50...I'm the sole bike along my route.
I purchased my 07 Heritage Softail in Feb, It now has 5800 miles on it. It took me a long time to get to a place where I could afford a new Harley. I keep it in the garage and ride it when I can. I consider it my toy and not my daily commuter. It would probably be a daily commuter if it weren't for the five miles of dirt road I have to drive on to get to work. Its like the folks that have street rods. Most do not use them as their primary means of transportation. Bought the wife an 07 Street Bob, it took her three months to get the thousand miles on it for the initial service, but she works alot harder than I do
