I probably don't ride nearly as much as many of you guys do.
For one reason, I just don't have the spare time, I canât ride to work (too much junk to carry) and I'm on call 24/7/365.
I envy you guys, and ladies who can do it butI just don't have thephysical capacity to ride a bike all day anymore. After 4 heart attacks and a damaged right elbow trips longer than 75/100 miles at a time are about all I can handle. For anything longer than that I need too many rest stops to be worth the trouble.
So if I ever do manage to get the time to go on a really long trip, I have resigned myself to the fact that the bike is going to make most of the tripin theback of my pickup truck.
But even at that I still managed to put almost 5000 miles on my Custom in the year since I got it.
My last bike was an older Yamaha that I had for over 4 years and only managed toput a little over 2500. Thecontinual hand numbing buzz of the handlebars made it a lot less pleasant to ride.
So am I still a "biker", even though I don't/can't put a lot of miles on the bike? Maybe, maybe not, but itâs not important.
I'm not in it for the "status", I ride because I like to ride, and like somebody said, its great mental therapy.
I am new to motorcycles and just purchased a new 2008 Deluxe. I purchased it two months ago and have never drove a bike before that. I have 900 miles on it so far. I take my 20 minute ride to work as much as possible. But the reason I am replying is that someone said that they knew someone who is a lawyer and could not ride in dress clothes. I am a restaurant manager and wear dress slacks, pressed shirt, tie, and dress shoes to when I ride to work. In Georgia it's in the 60's in the day and 40's at night. I may not be wearing the coolest stuff BUT I AM RIDIN. I have no problems with my clothes looking bad and I even got a buzz cut. Being a new riderI have my moments of mess ups and feeling uneasy. People make excuses not to ride. I love the new Harley-Davidson sticker on my Hummer H2 but I'd rather show my Harley pride on the seat of Deluxe.
