Default softail deluxe vs. heritage softail

Let me start off by saying that this is my first post after registering yesterday....Hello to everyone!
I am on the market for a Softail Deluxe and I am a bit confused. I was checking for lowering kits available foraSoftail Deluxethe other day and there seems to be nothing on the market. I emailed Drag Specialties and asked them why the lowering kits they offer ("for all Softails") exclude '05-'08 Softail Deluxes. The rep. said that the Softail Deluxe comes factory lowered. So, I went to the Harley-Davidson homepage to do some (same family) model comparisons. The Deluxe and the Heritage Softail hardly differ in ground clearance. Their seat heights differ a bit, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that it is lowered from the factory.
Can anyone shed some light?

the harley lowering kit is not made for the deluxe but after market kits are ready available such as arlen ness for one My deluxe is lowered front and back . the kits run about 70 dollars or so for the back and about 80 or 90 for the front i have a progressive kit in the front. If you do it yourself it wont cost you much but if you have the dealer do the front end for you he will get you for about 3 hours and at 75 to 80 an hour thats about 250 dollars. probaley get you about the same for the rare. The deluxe has the lowest seat heignt which is about twenty four and a half inches harley makes a set of lowering shocks which if you read the fitment it said except deluxe i beleive this is because its allready in the deluxe which is why its one of the lowest at seat heigth.

I've only checked the Fat Book as of yet and it seems that every lowering kit that theyofferhas this message after the part number..."For 00-07 Softail models (except 05-07 FLSTN, 07 FXSTD). I figured that the lowering kits would work on the Deluxe, I just didn't know exactly why they list it that way.
Thanks for the info and beautiful bike!

Welcome to the Forum!

You need to decide which bike will fit your need and wants better. It seems a lot of the aftermarket accesories will exclude the deluxe from their fitment lists. So If you have an idea on what you want to do to your bike you may want to see if the make those parts for the deluxe. But then again the Heritage springer ends up on those exclusion lists also.

why a lowering kit? Deluxe is pretty low as is. I'd ride it before spending money, unless your height is really a factor...

great bike, good luck...

i'd be deciding on the model and riding the thing before you go and lower ... it wil change the riding dynamics and you might find that "stock" height is perfect ... also be prepared for scraping of boards.

My wife is somewhat vertiacally challanged and I modded the seat to sit her even lower but she just loves a Badlander which I thought made her reach good but she still wanted to be lower. I picked up the rear lowering kit off Ebay and lowered it another inch and now she is happy. The parts are readily available on Ebay and a lot cheaper than the stealer is going to charge you for the same thing.

for most of us its not about the riding height its the look thats what is all about, people with customs cars or bikes have been lowering them for as long as i can remember and nine out of ten its about the look lowering a car or bike gives it a sleek look a custom look look around the forum and you will see plenty of lowered bikes and if you asked most would say its the look. o yea there are those who need to get lower to make good contact with the earth but i think they are out numbered

Most of the kits that exclude the Deluxe do it because they will not chance the ride hieght. It's the same in the Dyna's with the Lowrider. If they didn't have the footnote excluding these models people would buy them and then be ticked because they didn't get the effect they wanted.
