Default Chrome Frame Insert Question

I picked up some chrome frame inserts for my 08 fatty today while out and about. I've read a lot of stories about them falling off while riding. Anyone have any suggestions on getting them to stick other than to clean it real good and to heat the frame with a blow dryer? Anyone using any adhesives rather than the 3m backing tape? Im thinking they will be ok with the 3m tape, i've used that stuff on other things and it is rock solid. Just seeing what everyone else did.

I would spray brake cleaner on a rag and wipe off the surface the the tape will make contact to to make sure there is no oil residue of any type and it should stick better.

Yea, i have some wax/oil/grease remover for like paint prepping im going to use on it, then i think im gonna heat the area on the frame with a blow dryer. It should stick pretty good after that.

Use some 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the install area first. Then make sure it's thoroughly dry. If you need to bend one of the inserts (I had to on my '04 Fatty) to follow the frame contour, bend it before you remove the backing tape and try to get it as close to the final shape as possible before final installation. Make sure you get the alignment of each insert dead on before you touch the sticky backer to the frame. Once aligned, press REAL HARD and hold the pressure on for about 60 seconds, rubbing from side to side and top to bottom with a clean, dry, soft cloth to make sure you get a good seal and get all the air bubbles out. The blow dryer may or may not be helpful but if you use it, I'd do it after the bits are installed, not before, then press and rub some more. Mine have been on for 3 seasons with no problems. Good luck and ride safe.

Just put some on mine on Saturday. You mean I was supposed to clean the frame first? I cleaned it with a rag and some cleaner.

Super clean the frame (you know that, like others have said too)
Use a blow dryer to heat up the frame (good idea)
I also use the blow dryer to slightly warm up the tape too

(Okay here's my 2 cents)
Whenever I do anything with 3M tape on it, I also wear gloves. So the oil off my fingers don't get on the tape.
I use those latex type Dr's gloves.
It's awfully hard for me not to slip and get my damn hands on the tape side.

I've used the 3M tape on lots of things and the only time I had trouble was when my fingers touched the tape side.
