I tried searching for a thread like this but nothing was exact. I 'm looking to get new pipes for my new softail. I had Screamin Eagle II pipes on my sportster and liked the loudness. Currently i'm looking at the regular screamin eagles on harleys website for $299. Whats the biggest difference in sound between what i had and what im looking at? I want something that holds the traditional harley sound and not too ear numbing for long rides.
had seII on my 05 sportster, loved them. bought se for my 07 softail, far from "ear numbing", in fact, they sucked so bad i bought the BSS after rush slip-ons, would recommend nothing less than the rush slip-on's 2.0.
I was going to get the Screaming eagle slip ons. When I took the stock ones off my 07 FXSTC and examined them, I saw that I could drill out a baffle. I did that and it worked great. Louder under hard accelleration but about the same as stock at a constant setting. The motor was stronger also. Saved $$$$.
You'll get lots of opinions, depending on what others seem to like. I personally like the SE on my Heritage. They're not too loud but definitely louder than stock. A bud has a set on his Softail Custom as well and they sound good on both bikes. I think his might be just a tad bit quieter, and that is probably due to the size of the windshield and the reflected noise coming back on the rider.
Don't confuse the current SE slip-ons with the SE2 that you see on '06 and earlier models. The SE2s are another 25% louder, but you can't get them from HD for '07 and later models.
I have the Rush 2.0 slip-ons on my 07 FXST and absolutely love them. As long as i don't use a windshield they are not ear numbing at highway speeds, Very deep "harley" sounding (I hated typing that). I bought themfrom FuelMotoalong with the PCIII. I had theScreamin eagles you speak of, and was disappointed the minute i started the bike, so needless to say i **** canned them. Good luck!!
I have SE 1s on my SPringer, they were stopped being made in 2005 due to emmissions, they Arent legal. They sound GREAT i can roll at hwy speeds & they dont hurt my ears, but they for sure sound better than stock,
