Just ordered a set of 16" Chubby 509s for my Deluxe. Right now, I have a 4" riser on the bike. I may or may not keep that on there - I have a set of 1" risers too. Either way, which length of cables should I get? I will be running the wires inside the bars. Any help would be really appreciated.
I would just wait until you get the bars wired and installed first. Then measure up the length, unless someone has already done the 509s on a Deluxe and can get you the lengths. If you don't want to cut and splice, and solder the existing switch assembly wiring, you can make up your own extension wiring. The part numbers for the HD male and female pins are: 72168-07, 72169-07. You'll need access to a crimper for molex pins.
Are you in the winter mode? I've been doing my stuff as the winter project. Pretty of time to get things done without rushing.
Some thoughts that I can share:
1. If you got an extra $110, and you are in colder weather, may want to think about heaters for grips. I installed thhe Kuryakyn Heat Demons, since I was doing new grips anyways. The heat elements install inside handlebar end. real sweet. Well worth it!
2. Check out http://www.magnumshielding.com/ for Stainless cables and lines. they look great!
3. Check out http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...number=082-428. Chrome TechFlex I used on wires existing from handlebars down to the frame. I used Russell Clear heat shrink tubing over it.
Also I took off all that heavy wire loom used on the switch assembly wiring and just used shrink wrap tubing. ends up being thinner wire bundle and easier to pull through handlebars.
I used to have the same 16" bars you bought (changed them out to 20"), with a 4" rise on my '06 Fatboy. My cables were 8+ stock...I'd recomend measuring as well though - better safe than sorry with the $$ they'll run you.

I have 16's on my deluxe and put them on 2" risers. I have +12 cable. You could do +10's if you go with 2" risers, but if you stay with 4" risers, I'd go with +12
Might want to try this place. He has good prices and he knows the size you will need. I was very happy with his service. IMHO I would stick with the lower riser. A tall riser with apes looks goofy
Call Wild Ones and get thier recomendations. I did this, then ordered cables from Dennis Jerk. Then, onceI gotthem and decided on routing, throtle cable angles, etc. I returned most of the cables and ordered the correct ones. It's not a one size fits all. Chad.
