First thing I had to do was change the pipes. They're so hot that they melted my wife's boot on the right side. I ended up going to supertrapp to keep it down low and away from her feet. Already had the backrest and sundowner seat, but that seat offers little for the passenger. I sent mine in and had foam and gel added to it. I also went with progressive suspension front and rear, which helped a great deal.
Bottom line, though, I ended up buying a BMW K1200LT for our long distance two-up riding. I'll probably dump all the seat and backrest options and solo the Deuce out. The Deuce is without question my favorite bike of all time.

You can sort of force the deuce to work for this purpose, but it ain't pretty and there are definitely bikes out there that are more suited to this purpose.
