Default Deluxe: Harley Slip-ons vs. Alternatives

My first bike - a blue and white deluxe comes in March 8th. I've notice a lot of guys getting Vance and Hines longshots or SE 16 gauge double barrel pipes. Harley makes two slip-ons for less than half the price. Do these things suck bad? How much extra price and what other add ons are necessary to get the longshots or SE pipes? As I said, I'm a first time harley-owner, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Mike,

Welcome to the forum. Do a little research, this has been discussed quite a bit here on the forum, do a search to speed things up. To sum it up, the SEIIs are not too loud, but the V&H are deeper in sound, louder, and more expensive...as you know.

Hope you enjoy your time here, and again, Welcome.

I chose the Vance & Hines Big Shots Long for two reasons.

The first was better performance and sound over stock, but I could have achieved that with slip ons.

The second reason was more clearance for large saddle bags. The small saddle bags that would fit with the stock setup are a joke, and I would like to do some trips on the bike.

Here's what my bike looked like the day I brought her home:

Fellas,

Thanks for your advice. I went with the Screamin' Eagle 16 gauge. From what everyone says they have a deep throaty sound louder than SE II's and not quite as loud as longshots. I love the look. I'll post a couple pics when it comes in.

Mac - Naval aviator? Best pilots on Earth. Man, what a small world. I'm a firstie at the academy and this bike is actually a graduation gift from my dad. I opted to go Marine ground, but my girlfriend will be reporting to Pensacola in August. She can't wait to ride 2-up on my deluxe!
-another note - do you know anyone currently stationed at USNA? Man, that would be too funny.
