I put mine into 6th at soon as I hit highway speeds (sometimes thats 55) and leave it there unless I need to pass someone quickly, then I downshift, otherwise its got enough power to accelerate - keeping up with traffic that is. 6th is very smooth, and the engine purrs. I like it!!!
Coyte,
Looking at your trunk, you sure it is the engine purring???[sm=happybounce.gif]
I almost spit out my coffee laughing so hard!!!! It very well could have been what was in the trunk!! [sm=laughingsmilie.gif]
I use it and it's so smooth I don't relize I'm going 80 at times. I back off around 70 to 75 and it just purrs along. It will dog out if your going below 60.
I didn't think I'd use 6th much when I first got the bike because I never really did a ton of highway riding. Not only do I use it now but I actually like highway cruising now because of the extra gear. Like most I don't shift to 6th until I'm around 70.
I don't have a 6th gear and cruise at 70 to 75 with traffic. Seems the RPMs are pretty mellow, not revvy at all at these speeds and if passing is needed, simple twist does the trick nicely. Why need a 6th gear I thought yesterday cruising along.
So yesterday I thought to ask the '07+ crowd - Do you guys use the 6thgear much???
Mike
The 07+ crowd's 6th gear is the same ratio as prior year's
5th gear....the OE 6th gear is not an overdrive.
If you want a true overdrive get the Screaming Eagle 6-Speed:
From the spec sheets, the'065this 3.150 and'08 6this 2.790(earlier post shows all the gears). I'm not sure about the CVOratios.
I do remember reading an AI article or something aboutBaker transmissionsbeing 1:1 forthe primary. Not sure but doesn'tthat add refer to rotations for the primary with 1:1 being the best? I'm really not sure how all that stuff works.
About 60 when in normal cruise mode. Great for the highway. Appreciate the lower RPM on my FLST. Don't always like it when cruising the backroads (where I like to ride) cause I have to shift alot between 5th and 6th which I don't have to do on my 05 FLTR. All in all I wouldn't buy just for the 6 speed.
