Has anyone ever taken the boards off the FatBoy to add pegs. I am wanting to do that and would like to see how difficult it is? I just do not like the Floorboards......[sm=patriot.gif]
i want to do the same to my deluxe. I know kuryakyn makes some forwards called floorboard eliminators that would work. I doubt the install would be very difficult.
I'd think that any softail forwards would work for the fatboy as long as you order the right year of controls.......sorry i couldn't help more.
I removed floor boards from my 99 Fatboy and replaced them with hardbody forward controls. It was fairly easy as long as you have a jack because you have to remove the kickstand. One of the best things I did for the bike I find it alot more comfortable. Plus no more grinding the floorboards off around corners
Good luck
I put forwards on my springer classic which had the exact same setup as the fatboy with the floorboards. It's really simple. A few bolts on each side and they come right off. Of course you have to remove the brake line from the master cylinder first on the right side and disconnect the shift linkage on the left. Very intuitive. I never looked at any instructions. When your done you'll need to bleed the rear brake. Helps to have a buddy to open/close the bleeder valve or push the brake pedal. Like RYAND1 said you'll want to have a jack for the job. Check out my gallery for pics of the forwards installed on my bike.
By the way, it took me about 3 1/2 hours which included changing my exhaust to aftermarket pipes.
Coaster, would the forwards from HD have bolted right on if you wouldn't have had the ness forward extension kit? Would the original brake line and shift linkage fit ?
That's affirmative! There are three bolts on each side and they'll fit right where the floorboards are mounted. The brake line and shift linkage should also fit with no problems.
when i buoght my 05 deuce it had boards on it.i put stock controls back on.it was really easy but 3 bolts that hold mount were dam tight. rod for shift and brake was same 1 for both. only thing i changed was i put a smaller brake pedal, stock one back on.oh i bought my bike with 200 miles, boards were not stock of course.
