I LOVE mine, and I don't think they are too loud. You can always add the quiet baffles which will take it down a notch or two, but they'll certainly not put the BSS into "quite" as the name implies.
You have to do the whole Stage 1 for a performance gain. Pipes alone will not really do anything but sound a lot better.
I don't need ear plugs for any riding condition. I don't think anyone else does either with their V&H BSS.
I called my dealer and they wanted $609. I ended up buying mine off ebay from a very reputable seller and paid $469. I'm still waiting on the damn echeck to clear so I can't comment on the sound. Can't wait to get these badboys on!!!
I like the sound of mine. Nice low, throaty tone while cruising, don't draw alot of attention when cruising around town, yet I can get after it and make em' bark a bit when I want to.
I've got them on my bike, with the quiet baffles. Leaving bike night last night, several people on bikes pulled up at the lights and said my pipes sounded really good. No matter what you think about your pipes, it's really great when someone else tells ya they like them!!
BSS on an 08 Fatboy. GREAT looks...neighbors didn't like the stock baffles so I installed the quiet baffles. Still pretty LOUD....deep thunderous sound at idle.
I put the BSS on my 07 Night Train with a stage 1 Big Sucker and a Fuelpak. I love the sound of them and I do not feel they are too loud, although I thought they were loud when I first put them on I grew used to them now. I got a great price for everything through Cyclespot. I also don't have any complaints with the Fuelpak for my setup, and although I haven't dynoed the bike it sure feels like it has a lot more pull now. I am very pleased with the setup.
I have the Python staggered duals. They are made by Vance and Hines for Drag Specialties. The only difference is the tips are not removable. I got them from Eastern Performance for $359 brand new and they were on my doorstep in 2 days. I would highly recommend them. They are notear piercingloud but they sound really good.
