Iam also considering either trading in my 07 sportster or adding a deluxe to my garage. My question is how is for 2 up? And how bad am I gonna get rapped on the trade in if I decide to go that route?
Thanks Kirt
Kirt,I had my Sporty for 9 months, and only lost $900 when I traded it back. That was acceptable to me because I wasn't pleased with it and wasn't using it. Everyone has to evaluate what they're willing to do in a case like this.
I've been told that it does very well 2-up after you change the rear pillion.....it's about 3" wide.
I also went from a Sportster to aâ big twinâ Softail. The loud clank was a little disconcerting at first but I hardly notice it now. Nice bike by the way, now all you need is saddlebags and a windshield and youâll be all set.
I can live with 900.00 loss, cant take it with me !! Guess Ill go look this weekend and see what they can work out. Other than the 6 speed trans, is it worth it to get a 07 or 08 or ar the older ones just as good? My other concern is between us we are about 450 lbs is that too much?? I really liek the sporty - but with want to travel even more on the extra room would be nice! The reno dealer here has a real nice used one on the net thik its a 04 with 14000miles on it.
Hey kirt, I have an '05 Deluxe...and, for us, it's great for 2-up ridin...but the big gorilla is right...put the tourin pad on the back for the missus. I also put on the passenger floorboards...and added a set of passenger highway pegs so she could change position. The missus has done as many as 600 miles in a single day on the back...and really likes howthe highway pegs let her kick back against the backrest. We've put over 45k on the bike in 3 1/2 years...our rides are measured in the thousands of miles...and the missus loves every minute of it. We're headin out in 'bout four weeks for a 3500 mile round trip to Bar Harbor, Maine and up into New Brunswick, CA. The Deluxe is the most comfortable ride I've ever had.
Good lookin' motorcycle! I too like the color. I got black, but for reasons that date back to when I was a toddler. That's another story we'll get into another time! What they say about 2-up is right on. I bought the Touring Pax pillion to replace the little dollop of leather it comes with, and for around town my Wife is good with it. She likes the Sundowner pax accomodations much better, and when we go more than just local I put it on. And to answer one of your questions, the Wife and I are nearly 400 lbs, and if I hit a speed bump wrong it bottoms out...but you learn after that first event to slow and easily go over bumps and obstacles as they come up and it hasn't happened a second time.
I ride with a Heritage Springer seat solo, and ride for hours on it with a rear fender bib...the look is super cool, and it takes only minutes to add either the pillion or Sundowner for her. You are gonna love your motorcycle...
