Did mine about a month ago. It was my first time. As long as you take your time and go step by step in the manual you will have no problem.

I currently have a set of Narrow Band Billet Style Grips on my Softail Deluxe. Don't like them and am switching them for a set of CoolSac Braided Grips. Everything I've seen in the forum regarding switching grips talks about cutting off the stock grips. How do you take off the chrome grips???

Loosen the throtle cables first. Makes it easyer. Left grip if you cant pull or blow it off, take a nife and cut it off.

I didnt glue my left side, the new HD ones the cluthc braket kinda clamps on it to hold it. or you can use hair spray to lube and stick it on.

So Nomad, did you ever get this done?

I read the post in DIY, and it has me rethinking doing this myself. Seems like a lot more than what is listed in this thread.

So is it truly 'no big deal?'

Another thread said you dont need to remove the cables at all, since you are re-using the throttle assy.

I bought HD grips, and I hear they are 'no-glue'. Do you guys glue em anyhow?

Thanks

Rhubarb.....Did the grip change, was very easy operation. Just loosen the throttle cables, and remove the torx screws that holds the switch pod together, and when you slowly pull the switch pod apart you will see how the throttle cables are routed on the grip. Like everyone says go slowly so you won't drop the ferrules on the end of the cables. I just cut off the left grip. It really is a easy job to replace grips. You can do it.....

Thanks for the info!

I always get nervous when it takes a nimble hand to do stuff.

I am much better at wrenching on the motor side of things where my clumbsy fingers dont get in the way so much

The Billet ones come off the same way, they slip off once the mounts are removed from around them. No cutting required.

Changing them is not a big deal, it is maybe a ten minute job. When loosening the throtle cables I used a sharpe marker so that I could line everyting back up the way it was.
