I been hearing different answers to the power commander question. I have a 07 fxst I have santee exhaust w/ o2 ports and some say no power commander needed because it has the port some say yes no matter what, because it will run hot. I have an temp oil dipstick and the oil temp has not changed between before pipes and after. I;m bringing it in Monday for the 1k service and i don't want to void my warranty either.please help!
Before you spend hundreds on a PCIII and a dyno you might want to buy a pair of XiEDs from nightrider.com. They change the air/fuel ratio to what Harley would put it at if it wasn't for the EPA. $100 and your done. Easy do it yourself install. They really make an amazing difference in the ride, cooler better running. Unless your doing engine mods like cams or headwork there is no need for an expensive tuner. You don't even need the Harley stage 1 download. Save your money.
I use a Thundermax with Autotune on mine that way no need for Dyno time every time U make a change.
If you have only changed your pipes it may be ok to just leave as is. Once U change the aircleaner to a stage 1 or 2 then U need to run a power commander, Sert, Fuelpak or T/Max as I do.
The reason is that the bikes are set to run lean from the factory due to EPA. Once you increase air flow through the system by putting satge 1 air and pipes the engine will run very lean and U may destroy it. Ie hole in piston ect as it will be running so lean. Pre EFI U could change jets but with EFI U need a to electronically change the EFI parimiters.
The XiED will change the air/fuel ratio from a factory setting of about 14.7/1 to an optimum setting of 13.8/1. $100, fifteen minutes, all done. This is the air/fuel setting that Harley would do if it wasn't for the EPA. Just because it's a Harley doesn't mean you have to throw money away on tuners.
Thanx for the advise, My appointment is tomorrow so I'll cross my fingers that they don't bust my ***. I'll check back with you guys tomomorrow. Thanx again!
I just wanted to thank you guys again. Got my bike back today. they dyno'd it and everythings fine. They said if I wanted, I could get a download for more power for $150 but it didn't need it.
Thanx again! talk to ya soon.
