Ok...we all know opinions are like ********.
What are the best riding tires? Not necessarily the longest lasting, but what gives the best, smoothest ride?
Honestly best dry pavement performance/traction tires are Avon Venom-R's and X's, they also have very good wet pavement performance too. The downside to their ability to hold the road is that the rubber compound used doesnt last quite as long as other tires.
Metzeler tires are good too, excellent wet pavement performance, but they are still a notch behind Avons. THey will last a few thousand miles longer though, but this is the tradeoff.
Avons = better road grip, less miliage
Metzelers = more miliage, bit less grip

Metzeler ME880s. They handle great, perform superbly in rain, and if you keep them inflated to correct pressure, they last a long time. I have over 14000 miles on my front tire, and there's still a good bit of tread left. I have over 10000 miles on the rear and it still has 50% or more tread left The most I got out of my original front tire was 10K miles.
Absolutely, softer compound ='s better grip normally, but it also means less miliage. Ive run my fair share of both tires, Avons just don't last as long, but to me thats OK, because their grip is better. Especially the R's(radials which have a superior "comfort" ride as well at the cost of load capacity)which are the best tires I have come across for a heavy cruiser bike to date.
I Put Avon Venom X's on my Fatboy and you couldn't give me a set of HD Dunlops !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ride is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better. 880's are good too if you can get the German made ones .
