Default Progressive 422 on a Fat Boy

I'm considering going to Progressive 422's for my 08 Fat Boy. I have the HD lowering studs on it now put on by the stealer but I don't feel like it's lowered me at all.

Anybody added the 422 lately? How was the install? How do they ride compared to the stock shocks? I weigh in at 240 so I'm not exactly a lightweight. Will I have to tighten up the preload so they rattle my teeth?

I've seen them on EBay for $350 or so quite a bit. Anybody know of a reliable source that may be cheaper? Or any alternative shocks?

I know this is a lot of questions but the search engine did not give me much info. Thanx for any responses.

I went the same route that you did, installed the HD lowering studs and couldn't notice a thing. I since installed the 422s, easy install if you have a bike jack. I kept the factory preload (lightest) and have them lowered a full 2". The ride isn't too bad at all on the highway, but I live in the Northeast (pothole heaven) so the alleys bang me around pretty much. I bought mine from JP Cycle for about $500...I think.

I bought the HD Profile Low lowering shocks from a forum member but saw them on ebay for $175.00 brand new in the box. They are normally $350. You can see in my sig that they lowered the rear about an inch which was all I wanted. I weigh about 230 so I may need to adjust the preload at some point, but highway riding has been good so far. I haven't tried 2up yet.

I'm selling a pair of progressive 422's on eBay for $300. They are brand new in the box. I bought them just before I bought my night train, because I thought my train didn't have lowering shocks already, but it did. I bought them for $350 from motorcycle accessory wearhouse, and am selling them for $300 just to try to get most of my money back.

They are brand new in the box, exactly as you would receive them (same packing, everything) from the guy who sells them for $350

Just search for "progressive 422" on eBay and my listing will show up.

I put the 422's and love them. I set the preload a little higher than factory as i'm a big boy. It's a little rough on sharp bumps, but doesn't bottom out.

Install was easy. Took about an hour.

Love being able to raise and lower the bike as conditions change by adjusting a few nuts...

I'm very happy with my 422's. I ride 2-up 60-70% of the time. Now we don't bottom out.

Thanks for the replies. I have a Sundowner seat coming from Zanotti and when that gets here I'll know for sure how much I need to lower it. I expect that I will be getting the 422 though.

Just Installed the Progressive Front Fork Spring Kit $250. And Michelin Commander II Tires. Man what a difference. The front is so much more responsive and glides over the bumps like your on air. Next up will be adding heavy duty Progressive Rear Shocks with RAP.

I just mounted a Commander II on my Heritage and that alone was an unbelievable improvement in smooth ride and gliding over bumps!! Not realy surprised though, any vehicle I ever switched to any Michelin tire rode smoother regardless what tires were on it before!

I will be mounting a front Michelin next, but am debating on the 422's for ride, I am plenty low now for me.
