Default Has your Heritage been lowered?

My wife is currently on an 883L, and we're going to move her up to a Softail soon. At the dealership last week, she sat on every bike on the floor, and the salesman tried to put her on a used 2006 Heritage that they had that had been lowered. She was THRILLED at the seat height and said that she felt much. much more confident and comfortable on the lowered bike. I plan to buy a new 2009 bike for her and let the dealer lower it before we take delivery, but I would like to hear from you Heritage owners who have lowered your bikes. Is there any handling difference or any other info that you'd like to pass along?

Thanks guys!

The Heritage is pretty low to begin with. You may want to have her try it before you decide to lower it any more. Could be fine and save you some big bucks.

She can't get her heels on the ground on a Heritage in standard form...even with her riding boots on. I won't get her a bike that she can't flat-foot. There's just way too much weight there and it's better to avoid a problem than to deal with the aftermath. She has ridden my Deluxe, but prefers the looks of the Heritage better.

My buddies wife rides one and she's pretty short. He didn't lower it but they put a Laperra seat on it that brought it down.

Lowered Heritage=Deluxe. They are both really the same bikes frame wise, HD just lowers the Deluxe 1" from the factory. The lean angle is a bit "shallow", and could be a problem for someone who rides fast. If you want her to get an Idea of how a lowered Heritage would handle, let her test ride a Deluxe.

Wife's 2008 Heritage is lowered. It lets her plant her feet flat on the ground. She rode it for a couple months before lowering it, she did ok, but I could always tell that she was not comfortable in certain areas. She never complained and always handled it. Now that it is lowered, I don't notice her struggling so much at stops. She says it don't feel any different riding the twisties or makeing turns. Now I will tell you I can and have scraped the floor boards a couple times on her, just don't tell the wife. She would have reasons for murder. She really enjoys her Heritage, and has no regrets except not getting one sooner. She say it rides and handles so much easier than her sporty did.

I lowered mine using the low profile shocks from harley. They are the same as on the deluxe. I should think the 1 inch should be enough for her and it doesn't really compromise the ride. Maybe will let it scrape easier in the tight corners is all.

She may have to practice leaning herself more in the corners instead of the bike but there are probably thousands of Heritages that have been lowered that are being ridden without problems. Next time you go for a ride, try going into a corner and leaning like normal but halfway through the corner lean yourself a little more, you'll see the bike stand up a little. If she can learn that technique it will help.

Default lowering kit

Hi, I am a woman and I rode an 883 and thought I was content. I just bought a 2008 Heritage and I had it lowered the day I bought it. I stand 5'6 with a 28" inseam and had no problem with it the way it was but found it to be even better with that extra one inch lower. It took about a week to adjust to the weight and how the bike handles and I have to say am so much happier on this bike. It turns so much better, the weight distribution is awesome. I'd go for the lowering kit if I were you just for the maneuverability when parking. At first you may want to keep an eye on the pipes- my boots kept landing on them , making a heck of a mess but I've adjusted to the bike and know where to keep my feet. If this happens- oven cleaner gets the scuff marks off great! Hope this helps.
