I have a feeling the value of security elements is relative to the risk involved in actually having it stolen. I know people who have a security alarm and a chain and practically sleep under their bike at night, for fear of losing it...on the other side of the spectrum I know people that don't even lock their forks at night.
I've always believed if someone wants your bike, they'll get it.
That said, I lock the forks, and put a caliper lock on when I park.
I also have really good insurance. I might opt for the security system when i get some money, but basically for when I'm parked at a place so I'll know if some yahoo messes with it.
I don't think there is anything on the market that can completely stop someone from taking your bike if they are so inclined. I think security devices are simply deterants. Any little bit helps when it comes to the average or wannabe thief.
